BJP – Modi Set to Address Kolkata Rally Marking Parivartan Yatra Finale

BJP – Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to address a large political gathering on Saturday at Kolkata’s historic Brigade Parade Ground as the Bharatiya Janata Party wraps up its statewide Parivartan Yatra ahead of the upcoming West Bengal Legislative Assembly election. The rally is expected to be one of the party’s most significant events in the state this year, drawing supporters and party workers from different districts.

Major Political Gathering Planned in Kolkata

The rally comes at the conclusion of the BJP’s Parivartan Yatra, a political campaign that travelled across several regions of West Bengal in recent weeks. Party leaders say the initiative was designed to strengthen the organization at the grassroots level while reaching voters across urban and rural areas.

Brigade Parade Ground has long been known as a venue for major political meetings in the state, and preparations for the event have been underway for several days. Local BJP leaders expect a large turnout, with buses and other transport arrangements bringing supporters from multiple districts. Workers have been preparing the venue by setting up stages, sound systems, and seating arrangements for attendees.

Extensive Security and Traffic Arrangements

Given the scale of the event and the presence of the Prime Minister, authorities have introduced extensive security measures across parts of the city. Thousands of police personnel have been deployed in and around the rally venue to manage the crowd and ensure smooth movement.

Traffic restrictions have also been announced in several nearby areas to reduce congestion during the event. Officials have advised commuters to plan alternative routes, especially during the hours leading up to the rally. Security teams are coordinating with local administration and event organizers to ensure that the gathering proceeds without disruption.

Infrastructure Projects Worth Thousands of Crores

Apart from addressing the political rally, the Prime Minister is also expected to inaugurate and lay foundation stones for a series of infrastructure and connectivity projects in West Bengal. According to official information, these projects are valued at approximately Rs 18,680 crore and focus largely on expanding the region’s transportation network.

A significant portion of the investment will go toward national highway development projects estimated at about Rs 16,990 crore. These initiatives together cover more than 420 kilometres of road construction and upgrades across the state. Government officials say the projects aim to improve road safety, reduce travel time, and ease traffic congestion while supporting economic activity in eastern India.

Improved connectivity is also expected to benefit trade and logistics by linking industrial areas with major transport corridors.

Kharagpur–Morgram Economic Corridor Among Key Projects

One of the most notable projects to be announced is the proposed 231-kilometre Kharagpur–Morgram Economic Corridor. The route will be developed as a four-lane highway designed to improve connectivity between southern and northern parts of the region.

Once completed, the corridor is expected to shorten the distance between Kharagpur and Siliguri by roughly 120 kilometres. Officials estimate that the improved route could reduce travel time by nearly eight hours for long-distance traffic, making transportation more efficient for both commercial vehicles and regular commuters.

Such highway upgrades are expected to play a role in strengthening regional trade routes and encouraging economic growth in surrounding districts.

Party Leaders Highlight Organizational Preparations

Senior BJP leaders in West Bengal say organizational preparations for the rally are progressing quickly. State vice-president Raju Banerjee confirmed that arrangements are being made to accommodate a large number of participants at the venue.

However, he declined to provide details about the number of stages or specific logistical setups, explaining that certain aspects are being kept confidential due to security considerations.

Party workers from different districts have been coordinating with local leaders to mobilize supporters and ensure smooth participation in the rally.

Prime Minister’s Schedule Includes Assam Visit

Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister is expected to attend official programmes in Silchar, Assam, before traveling to Kolkata for the rally and related engagements in West Bengal. His visit is likely to include both political events and government project announcements, reflecting a combination of development initiatives and campaign activities ahead of the state election.

The Kolkata rally is expected to serve as a major moment in the BJP’s campaign efforts in West Bengal, where political competition is intensifying as the assembly election approaches.
