Building Collapse – One Dead as Rescue Teams Search Delhi Rohini Debris
Building Collapse – A 42-year-old man died and three people were pulled out alive after a four-storey building collapsed in Delhi’s Rohini Sector-16 on Wednesday evening during heavy rainfall. Rescue personnel continued searching through the debris late into the night amid concerns that more people could still be trapped inside the damaged structure.

Emergency Teams Reach Site After Afternoon Alert
The Delhi Fire Services received information about the collapse at around 4.20 pm. The incident occurred near an MCD school in Sector-16, Rohini. Five fire engines were sent to the location, where firefighters began clearing rubble and checking for survivors.
Police officers, fire department personnel, the National Disaster Response Force, Municipal Corporation of Delhi officials and other emergency teams joined the operation. Authorities cordoned off the area and arranged access for rescue vehicles and heavy machinery.
Victim Identified, Three Taken to Hospital
Officials identified the deceased as Ram Kishore, aged 42. He was declared brought dead at Babasaheb Ambedkar Hospital after being removed from the collapsed building.
Two other men, Saddham, 32, and Ravi, 35, were rescued from the debris and admitted to the same hospital for treatment. Officials said their medical condition was being monitored.
A senior police officer said hydraulic cutters and JCB machines were used carefully to remove large portions of concrete and other debris. Rescue workers were instructed to proceed slowly to avoid causing further harm to anyone who may still be trapped.
Nearby Buildings Vacated as Safety Measure
Deputy Commissioner of Police for Rohini, Shashank Jaiswal, said the property was owned by Manju, wife of Ram Dua, and Ritika. Police teams reached the site soon after the emergency call and evacuated nearby buildings as a precaution.
The authorities also put traffic and security arrangements in place to ensure that ambulances, fire engines and other emergency vehicles could move without obstruction. The site remained under police supervision while rescue work continued.
Firefighters Establish Contact With Trapped Person
Officials said rescue teams were able to establish contact with at least one person beneath the rubble. Drinking water was provided to the trapped individual, while an oxygen cylinder was arranged from a nearby hospital.
Lighting and generator facilities were also set up at the site to support the operation after sunset. A video released by the Delhi Fire Services showed firefighters using specialised equipment to lift heavy concrete slabs. In the footage, a firefighter can be heard assuring a person trapped below that rescue workers were working to bring him out safely.
Owner and Labourers Feared Under Debris
According to preliminary information, building owner Ram Dua was suspected to be trapped inside the collapsed structure. Authorities also feared that four to five labourers could be under the debris.
A local resident, Rakesh Singh, said people in the area heard a loud sound before discovering that the building had fallen. He said residents came outside after the noise and saw emergency teams arriving shortly afterward.
Officials have not yet confirmed the exact number of people inside the building when it collapsed. The cause of the collapse is also being examined.
DDA Says Area Was Handed to Local Body
In a statement, the Delhi Development Authority said the locality had been denotified in 2016 and later handed over to the local civic body. Further details about the building’s condition, permissions and possible structural issues are expected after the rescue operation and official inspection are completed.
