Assam – Government Announces Rs 9,000 Payment for 40 Lakh Orunodoi Families

Assam –  The Assam government has announced that nearly 40 lakh families enrolled under the Orunodoi scheme will receive a financial assistance of Rs 9,000 each on March 10. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared the update during a live interaction on Facebook on the occasion of International Women’s Day, highlighting the state’s continued focus on supporting economically vulnerable households through direct benefit transfers.

Assam orunodoi 9000 payment update

The Orunodoi scheme, introduced in 2020, remains one of Assam’s most prominent social welfare initiatives. Designed primarily to strengthen the financial stability of women in low-income families, the program provides monthly assistance directly to beneficiaries’ bank accounts.

Announcement Made During Women’s Day Address

While addressing residents during his social media broadcast, the chief minister confirmed that the government would release the lump sum payment to all eligible families under the scheme. According to him, the financial support scheduled for March 10 will reach approximately 40 lakh households across the state.

Sarma noted that the payment includes assistance for multiple months beginning in January, along with an additional benefit linked to the upcoming Bohag Bihu festival, which is widely celebrated across Assam. The government hopes the financial support will help families manage essential expenses and festival-related costs.

Statewide Meetings Planned for Distribution Day

To mark the disbursement, local gatherings will be organized in every panchayat and municipal ward across Assam. Similar meetings will also take place in the autonomous regions of Karbi Anglong, Dima Hasao, and Bodoland.

Officials have asked beneficiaries to attend these gatherings at designated locations in their respective areas. During these meetings, authorities will share details about the payment and ensure that families are informed about the transfer process and related welfare initiatives.

The chief minister encouraged beneficiaries to participate actively in these events, stating that the day would be an important moment for communities across the state.

Large-Scale Financial Transfer in a Single Day

The state government expects to distribute nearly Rs 3,600 crore in total through the March 10 payment. According to Sarma, releasing such a large amount of financial assistance in a single day represents a significant step in the government’s welfare efforts.

He described the initiative as a gesture of respect and support for the women who play a central role in managing household finances and family welfare. The government believes that strengthening women’s economic independence contributes directly to broader social and economic progress.

Focus on Women’s Empowerment

The chief minister also reiterated the state administration’s commitment to improving the lives of women through targeted programs. In a message posted on social media earlier in the day, he emphasized that women’s empowerment has been an important part of Assam’s development strategy.

According to Sarma, government initiatives have aimed to improve women’s access to financial support, education, healthcare services, and entrepreneurship opportunities. These efforts, he said, are helping thousands of women gain greater financial security and confidence.

The Orunodoi scheme has played a key role in this strategy by ensuring that financial benefits reach women directly. By transferring funds to women beneficiaries, the program seeks to give them greater control over household spending and financial decisions.

Government Highlights Continued Welfare Efforts

The Chief Minister’s Office stated that Assam has made notable progress in strengthening programs that support women and families from economically weaker sections. Officials say welfare initiatives will continue to expand in the coming years, with a focus on improving social security and economic opportunities.

The upcoming payment under the Orunodoi scheme is expected to provide timely financial support to millions of households across the state while reinforcing the government’s broader focus on social welfare and women’s empowerment.
