Safety – A woman in Bengaluru has accused a man of sexually harassing her while she was waiting for a cab in the Ramamurthy Nagar area. The incident came to light after she shared a video and a detailed account on social media, urging the Bengaluru Police to identify the accused and take appropriate legal action. Police have confirmed that they are examining the complaint and verifying the evidence provided.
Woman Describes Disturbing Encounter
According to the woman’s account, she was standing on the roadside waiting for her cab when a man riding a scooter stopped near her. She alleged that he made an offensive remark by asking about her “rate” and continued with comments that left her feeling threatened and deeply uncomfortable. She said the incident was not only humiliating but also raised serious concerns about her personal safety in a public place.
The woman stated that every individual, especially women, should be able to wait for public transport without being subjected to degrading remarks or unwanted advances. She described the man’s behaviour as intimidating and disrespectful, adding that no one should have to experience such treatment while simply going about their daily routine.
Video Recorded Before Accused Left the Spot
Realising the seriousness of the situation, the woman said she started recording the interaction on her mobile phone. According to her, the man noticed that he was being filmed, allegedly used abusive language, and quickly rode away from the location.
Along with the video, she also shared the registration number of the scooter, claiming it was KA03 KQ6190. She appealed to the authorities to trace the vehicle owner, identify the suspect, and ensure that legal action is taken if the allegations are established during the investigation.
Appeal Against Normalising Public Harassment
In her social media post, the woman stressed that incidents of harassment in public spaces should never be treated as routine or ignored. She urged people to report such behaviour instead of remaining silent, arguing that a lack of action often encourages offenders to continue targeting others.
She also highlighted the need for safer public environments where women and other citizens can move freely without fear of intimidation or harassment. Her appeal has drawn attention online, with many users calling for swift action by law enforcement authorities.
Police Verify Video and Vehicle Information
The Bengaluru Police have acknowledged the complaint and said that officials are examining the video shared by the complainant. Investigators are also verifying the vehicle registration details provided in the post to establish the identity of the person allegedly involved.
Authorities have not announced any arrests so far and said that the investigation is continuing. Police are expected to review all available evidence before deciding on the next course of action.
Earlier Case Raises Fresh Concerns in Karnataka
The latest allegation comes only weeks after another serious case involving alleged sexual exploitation surfaced in Karnataka. Earlier this month, the Women Police in Davangere registered a First Information Report against a local gym owner following a complaint from a 30-year-old married woman.
According to the police complaint, the woman alleged that the gym owner secretly recorded private images and videos inside the changing room without her knowledge. She further claimed that the accused repeatedly threatened to release the recordings online unless she complied with his demands for sexual favours.
The complainant stated that fear of social embarrassment and damage to her family’s reputation prevented her from reporting the matter immediately. Police are continuing their investigation into those allegations as well.
The two cases have once again brought attention to the importance of ensuring women’s safety in both public spaces and private establishments, while reinforcing the need for prompt reporting and thorough investigation of complaints.
