Pilgrimage – The revered Sri Bhramaramba Mallikarjuna Swamy Temple in Srisailam witnessed a notable rise in pilgrim arrivals during the summer months of 2026, reflecting growing interest among devotees and the success of several initiatives introduced by the temple administration. According to official figures, the shrine registered nearly a 10 percent increase in footfall compared to the same period last year, marking another significant milestone in its steady growth as one of the country’s major spiritual destinations.

Significant Increase in Summer Pilgrim Footfall

Data released by the Srisaila Devasthanam administration shows that 29,26,812 devotees visited the temple during March, April and May 2026. In comparison, the temple welcomed 26,82,274 pilgrims during the corresponding three-month period in 2025. The increase highlights a continued upward trend in the number of visitors seeking darshan at the historic temple, particularly during the summer season when pilgrim movement typically remains high.

Officials believe several factors have contributed to this growth, including better infrastructure, improved visitor services and enhanced transportation support for devotees travelling from different parts of the state and beyond.

Improved Facilities Attract More Visitors

Temple authorities attributed the rise in pilgrim numbers largely to efforts aimed at making visits more comfortable and convenient. Over the past year, the administration has focused on strengthening facilities across the temple complex to ensure a smoother experience for devotees.

Srisaila Devasthanam Executive Officer M. Srinivasa Rao said the management implemented multiple measures to improve overall pilgrim services. These included maintaining cleanliness throughout the premises, streamlining queue management systems, expanding access to drinking water, and ensuring adequate accommodation arrangements during peak travel periods.

The administration also strengthened transportation support to handle the increased flow of visitors, particularly during weekends and religious occasions when pilgrim turnout tends to surge.

Free Bus Travel Scheme Boosts Accessibility

Officials noted that the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation’s free bus travel initiative played an important role in encouraging more devotees to visit Srisailam. The scheme has made travel easier and more affordable for many pilgrims, especially those coming from distant districts.

Combined with improved temple management and quicker darshan arrangements, the transportation initiative has helped reduce travel-related challenges and contributed to a more seamless pilgrimage experience.

Financial Performance Reflects Higher Devotee Engagement

The increase in visitor numbers has also positively influenced the temple’s revenue collections. Temple authorities reported stronger financial performance through multiple channels, including hundi offerings, seva ticket sales, accommodation bookings and other religious services offered to devotees.

Higher participation in temple activities and services has strengthened overall collections, enabling the administration to continue investing in infrastructure upgrades and pilgrim welfare measures.

Consistent Growth Over Recent Years

The latest figures continue a remarkable growth pattern witnessed by the temple over the past several years. Official records indicate that the annual pilgrim count stood at 68.46 lakh in 2022 before rising to 83.18 lakh in 2023.

The number increased further to 95.54 lakh pilgrims in 2024 and crossed the one-crore mark for the first time in 2025, reaching an all-time high of 1.05 crore visitors. The sustained rise reflects the temple’s growing appeal among devotees and the impact of ongoing improvements in facilities and visitor management.

With pilgrim numbers continuing to climb, temple authorities are expected to further enhance services and infrastructure to accommodate future demand while ensuring a comfortable and spiritually fulfilling experience for devotees visiting Srisailam.
