Honour Killing – Father and Relative Held Over Pregnant Teen’s Death

Honour Killing –  year-old man and one of his relatives in connection with the suspected honour killing of his 18-year-old unmarried pregnant daughter, who was allegedly drowned in the Chambal River in Agra, police said.

The case came to light after a PCR call was received by Tigri police station on July 31. The caller informed the police that a young woman had allegedly been killed by her father. The information prompted officers to begin an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding her reported death in Agra.

Police Suspected the Death Was Not Accidental

According to information gathered during the investigation, the girl’s father allegedly took her to Agra along with a relative, telling others that she needed medical treatment. The two reportedly travelled with her on July 28 and spent the night at a relative’s home.

The following day, they allegedly took the teenager to the banks of the Chambal River near Basoni. Police said the girl was intentionally drowned at the location.

Afterward, the father reportedly told neighbours that his daughter had died in Agra. He also claimed that her last rites had been carried out there, according to sources familiar with the investigation.

Neighbour’s Call Triggered Investigation

A neighbour reportedly became suspicious about the circumstances surrounding the young woman’s death and contacted the police control room. The information led officers to examine the father’s account and investigate whether the death had actually occurred as described.

Police questioning initially did not produce a clear account from the accused. Investigators said the father attempted to mislead them during the early stages of the probe. However, he later admitted details that led police toward the alleged drowning in the Chambal River.

Social Stigma Cited as Possible Motive

Investigators said the preliminary findings point to fear of social stigma as the suspected motive behind the crime. The police allege that the father and his relative planned the killing after learning about the girl’s pregnancy.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Anant Mittal said the investigation indicated that the accused father, concerned about social repercussions, had conspired with his relative and taken the girl to the riverbank near Basoni in Uttar Pradesh, where she was allegedly drowned.

The police have arrested both suspects and are continuing to investigate their roles in the case. Officials are also working to locate and recover the girl’s body, which has not yet been traced.

Probe Continues as Police Search for Body

The investigation remains underway, with police examining the sequence of events from the girl’s departure to Agra through the alleged drowning and subsequent claims about her death and last rites.

Authorities are also expected to verify the statements made by the accused and gather additional evidence related to the alleged crime. The recovery of the body is likely to be an important part of the continuing investigation.

Police have not indicated that the investigation is complete, and further details are expected as evidence is collected and the circumstances surrounding the teenager’s death are established.
