Mumbai Local Train Update: In light of the sixth line construction, the Western train has imposed a 30-day block between the Kandivali and Borivali train stations starting on December 20, 2025. Some trains will be short-originated, terminated, controlled, and rescheduled during this block time. A few trains will not stop at Borivali station as planned.
Since postal express trains would no longer utilize the local track between Bandra and Borivali, a sixth line, which is expected to be finished by late January 2026, will facilitate the seamless operation of suburban trains.
While the sixth railway line was put into service up to Goregaon station in November 2022 and will be extended to Borivali as the length already reached Kandivali in 2023, the fifth line between Bandra Terminus and Borivali is already in service. There will be around 20 postal and express trains each day on the sixth line, which will run between Bandra Terminus and Kandivali.
The special night block ran from 11 p.m. to 4.30 a.m. on December 20 and 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026. According to information provided, 94 trains in total—47 Up and 47 Down trains—will be disrupted between December 21 and December 25, 2025, and 87 trains in total—41 Up and 47 Down trains—will be impacted on December 26 of the same year.
The work included track slewing as well as the installation and removal of many crossings at Kandivali and Borivali, according to a statement released by Western Railway’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Shri Vineet Abhishek. Train operations will be impacted by significant engineering, signaling, and overhead equipment work. As a result, certain passenger, mail/express, and suburban trains will be impacted.
Vineet went on to say that other lines would be subject to speed limits and that the fifth line will continue to be suspended for passenger train operations. Between Andheri/Goregaon and Borivali, the Fast line will serve all trains operating on the 5th line, including the Mail/Express and Suburban trains.
