ManipurHostageCrisis – ANSAM Intensifies Campaign for Release of Six Captives
ManipurHostageCrisis – The All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur (ANSAM) has stepped up pressure on the state administration, demanding the immediate release of six Naga individuals who are reportedly being held captive. The student body has also called for the safe return of the hostages to their families and the wider Naga community, emphasizing the urgency of the situation.

ANSAM Issues Ultimatum to Authorities
Addressing the media on Friday, ANSAM President Th. Angteshang Maring said the organization has formally submitted an ultimatum to the Manipur government. Alongside this move, ANSAM has launched a solidarity march aimed at drawing attention to the plight of the six captives.
According to Maring, the association wants both the state and central governments to take concrete measures to secure the release of the hostages. He stressed that the families of those affected have been enduring uncertainty and distress, making swift intervention essential.
Public Demonstrations Continue Across the State
The demand for the release of the six Naga civilians has also received support from various civil society groups. On May 28, security personnel were deployed around Irawat Bhavan in Imphal when the All Manipur Nupi Marup organized a protest rally seeking urgent action on the issue.
Participants in the demonstration carried placards and banners urging authorities to put an end to abductions and restore public confidence. The organization later submitted a memorandum to Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, highlighting concerns surrounding the ongoing challenges faced by residents of the state.
Civil Society Voices Concerns
Ningthoujam Premila, Assistant Secretary of the All Manipur Nupi Marup, said the rally was intended to ensure that the concerns of ordinary citizens reached decision-makers. She noted that people across the state continue to face multiple difficulties linked to the prevailing situation in Manipur.
The organization maintained that greater attention from government leaders is needed to address public grievances and improve conditions on the ground. The memorandum submitted to the Governor outlined several issues that community groups believe require immediate attention.
Human Rights Commission Receives Complaint
In a related development, a delegation headed by Manipur Congress President Keisham Meghachandra Singh met officials of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Wednesday. The delegation submitted a complaint concerning current developments in Manipur and requested the commission’s intervention.
Speaking after the meeting, Singh said the team had approached the NHRC to draw attention to the situation in the state and to seek action on matters affecting residents. The move reflects growing efforts by political and social organizations to bring national attention to the concerns emerging from Manipur.
Earlier Rally Highlighted Safety Concerns
The issue of the six abducted Naga civilians has remained a major concern for community organizations. Earlier this week, the Naga Peoples Union organized a large rally in Imphal demanding the safe and immediate release of those reportedly taken on May 13. The group also submitted a memorandum to the state government, urging authorities to intensify efforts to secure their return.
The rally witnessed significant participation from local residents and community members, underscoring the widespread concern surrounding the case.
Previous Hostage Release Offered Hope
Efforts to resolve hostage-related incidents in the region have previously produced positive outcomes. On May 15, a total of 28 hostages were released after both Naga and Kuki groups freed 14 individuals each. The development was facilitated through the involvement of the United Naga Council, civil society organizations, and law enforcement agencies.
Community leaders hope that similar cooperation among stakeholders can help secure the safe return of the six remaining captives and contribute to restoring stability and trust among affected communities.
