CrimeNews – Chhattisgarh Police prevented an alleged abduction attempt involving Padma Shri recipient and social worker Phoolbasan Bai after officers intercepted a suspicious vehicle near Rajnandgaon on Tuesday.
Police officials in Chhattisgarh said a major incident was avoided after security personnel stopped a suspicious vehicle close to the Chikhli police station in Rajnandgaon district. During the inspection, officers discovered noted social worker and Padma Shri awardee Phoolbasan Bai inside the vehicle under circumstances that immediately raised concern among the authorities.
Vehicle Stopped During Routine Police Check
According to Assistant Superintendent of Police Kirtan Rathore, the vehicle was intercepted during a routine checkpoint operation conducted by local police teams. Officers questioned the driver after noticing unusual activity inside the vehicle.
During the search, police found Phoolbasan Bai seated along with two girls. Initial information provided to the police suggested that the social worker was suffering from a medical episode. However, further interaction with those present in the vehicle reportedly led officers to suspect that the situation involved more serious circumstances.
ASP Rathore stated that the police team acted quickly after noticing inconsistencies during questioning at the checkpoint.
Phoolbasan Bai Reportedly Claimed She Was Forced Into Vehicle
Officials said preliminary questioning revealed that Phoolbasan Bai informed police she was allegedly being taken away against her will. Following her statement, authorities detained four individuals present in connection with the matter for further interrogation.
Police identified the group as consisting of two men and two women. Investigators are currently examining their statements and verifying details related to the incident.
Speaking to reporters, ASP Kirtan Rathore said that early findings in the case indicate a possible abduction attempt. He added that the investigation remains ongoing and additional details are expected after questioning and verification procedures are completed.
Investigation Continues in Rajnandgaon District
Authorities have not yet disclosed the identities of the individuals being questioned. Police teams are reportedly collecting evidence and examining the sequence of events leading up to the interception of the vehicle.
Officials are also trying to determine the motive behind the alleged act and whether the accused individuals had planned the incident in advance. Sources within the police department said all possible angles are being investigated to establish the complete facts of the case.
