A Romance Set During India’s Freedom Struggle
1942: A Love Story combines a romantic relationship with the political atmosphere of India’s struggle for independence. The story is set during the period surrounding the Quit India Movement and follows the relationship between Rajeshwari Pathak and Narendra Singh.
Rajeshwari, played by Koirala, is the daughter of a family loyal to the British, while Narendra, portrayed by Anil Kapoor, comes from a family associated with the freedom movement. Their relationship develops against the backdrop of growing political tensions, creating the central conflict of the film.
