Parole – Allahabad High Court Allows Atiq Ahmed’s Sons to Attend Brother’s Funeral
Parole –The Allahabad High Court has granted temporary parole to jailed brothers Ali Ahmed and Mohammad Umar so they can attend the funeral of their younger brother, Abaan Ahmed, in Prayagraj on Saturday. The court has directed that both prisoners remain under police custody and protection throughout the visit.
Court Sets Conditions for Funeral Visit
A division bench comprising Justices Ajay Bhanot and Divesh Chandra Samant passed the order after an application was submitted seeking permission for the two brothers to attend Abaan’s last rites.
The petition was represented by advocate Syed Safdar Ali Kazmi, who said the request was made to allow Ali Ahmed and Mohammad Umar to attend the funeral under strict security arrangements.
The court has instructed the Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police to nominate a senior police officer to oversee the arrangements. The officer will be responsible for ensuring the safety of the prisoners as well as maintaining close surveillance during their temporary release.
Family Meeting Also Permitted
Along with attending the funeral, the court has allowed the two jailed brothers to meet their younger sibling, Ehzam Ahmad, and their paternal aunt, Parveen Qureshi.
The meeting will take place at a location selected by the state authorities. The court order specifies that the family members can meet only under the arrangements determined by the authorities.
Once the funeral rituals and the permitted family meeting are completed, Ali Ahmed and Mohammad Umar will be escorted by police personnel back to their respective prisons.
Restrictions During Parole
The court has imposed several restrictions on the temporary release. The two brothers will not be permitted to address any public gathering or interact with members of the media during their visit.
They will also not be allowed to participate in any procession other than the funeral itself. The conditions are intended to ensure that the parole remains limited to the purpose for which it was granted.
The police authorities will remain responsible for their movement and security until they are returned to custody.
Abaan Ahmed Died in Jhansi Road Accident
Abaan Ahmed and his friend Sonu died following a road accident in Jhansi. The crash took place within the limits of Poonch police station when a speeding vehicle reportedly lost control and struck a roadside median.
According to the Senior Superintendent of Police in Jhansi, both Abaan and Sonu suffered serious injuries in the collision. Despite medical treatment, the two men died from their injuries.
Three other people were also critically injured in the accident and were taken for medical treatment following the crash.
Mortal Remains Taken to Prayagraj
After the post-mortem examinations were completed at a hospital in Jhansi, the mortal remains of Abaan Ahmed and his friend Sonu were transported to Prayagraj.
The funeral of Abaan is scheduled to take place on Saturday. In accordance with the High Court’s order, his brothers Ali Ahmed and Mohammad Umar will be brought to the city under police escort to attend the final rites before being taken back to their respective jails.
