Health Minister Nishant Kumar Files Nomination

Among the key faces in the NDA lineup was Bihar Health Minister Nishant Kumar, who reached the Assembly accompanied by Janata Dal (United) Working President Sanjay Jha. After submitting his nomination, Kumar expressed gratitude to the party leadership for placing confidence in him.

Addressing reporters, he said he would work with dedication and contribute towards the vision of a progressive and developed Bihar. He also acknowledged the legacy and aspirations associated with his family’s long-standing role in the state’s political landscape.

Pawan Singh Draws Attention During Arrival

Bharatiya Janata Party leader and Bhojpuri film star Pawan Singh was another prominent candidate to enter the contest. His arrival generated considerable public interest, with supporters gathering in large numbers outside the Assembly complex.

Pawan Singh was accompanied by several BJP leaders and party workers, along with his elder brother Guddu Singh. Although he chose not to interact with journalists, he conveyed appreciation to the BJP leadership for selecting him as a candidate and expressed satisfaction over the opportunity to represent the alliance.

Other NDA Nominees Complete Formalities

Several other NDA nominees also filed their papers during the day. These included Ashraf Ansari from Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), BJP leader Sanjay Mayukh, and JD(U) representative Bharti Mehta.

The nomination process was marked by the presence of a number of influential leaders from the ruling alliance. Senior figures, including Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary, Union Ministers Rajiv Ranjan Singh, popularly known as Lalan Singh, and Chirag Paswan, were present to support the candidates. Ministers from the Bihar government and senior party functionaries also attended the proceedings.

Opposition Presence Remains Limited

In contrast, the opposition Mahagathbandhan alliance maintained a relatively restrained presence during the nomination exercise. Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Sunil Kumar Singh emerged as the most prominent opposition candidate to file his nomination on the final day.

Political observers noted the difference in visibility between the two camps, as the NDA displayed a strong collective presence while opposition participation remained comparatively low-key.

Ten Candidates Contesting for Council Seats

With the nomination deadline now closed, a total of ten candidates have entered the race for the Legislative Council elections. Of these, nine belong to the NDA alliance, while one candidate has been fielded by the Rashtriya Janata Dal.

The upcoming election is expected to be closely watched, particularly because of the mix of experienced political leaders and high-profile personalities contesting for seats in the Upper House of the Bihar Legislature.

Questions Raised Over Deepak Prakash’s Exclusion

The candidate list also sparked discussion regarding the absence of former Bihar BJP president Deepak Prakash. His omission from the NDA roster led to questions from political circles and party supporters.

Responding to the matter, JD(U) leader and Bihar minister Shravan Kumar stated that the decision was entirely within the BJP’s jurisdiction. According to him, the BJP leadership was responsible for selecting its nominees and ultimately chose not to include Deepak Prakash among the alliance candidates.

As Bihar moves closer to the Legislative Council elections, attention will now shift from nominations to political campaigning and electoral calculations, with both ruling and opposition parties preparing for the next phase of the contest.
