Delhi Government- Tightens Coaching Centre Safety Rules Across the Capital
Delhi Government- The Delhi government has announced a comprehensive inspection campaign for coaching institutes across the city after introducing stronger measures aimed at improving student safety and institutional accountability. Authorities said every registered coaching centre will undergo a detailed review to ensure compliance with prescribed standards.
Statewide Inspection to Cover Every Coaching Institute
Education Minister Ashish Sood said on Friday that officials from the concerned departments will inspect all 924 coaching centres operating in Delhi. The initiative is part of a broader safety and regulatory exercise intended to verify whether institutes are following mandatory operational and infrastructure guidelines.
According to the minister, coaching centres that had previously received official notices for violating regulations will face stricter consequences if inspections reveal that the same deficiencies continue. Such institutions may be sealed without further relaxation. Centres found violating norms for the first time will receive formal notices and will be given one month to address the identified shortcomings before further action is considered.
Government Accepts Key Regulatory Recommendations
Sood also confirmed that the Delhi government has accepted the recommendations submitted by the Justice Guaba Committee, which was formed to suggest a framework for regulating coaching institutes. The committee’s proposals focus on creating a safer and more transparent environment for students while ensuring that coaching centres operate under clearly defined standards.
To move the recommendations forward, the government has established a committee headed by the Director of Higher Education. This panel will examine the operational structure of coaching institutes and recommend practical measures for implementing the proposed reforms, particularly in areas related to safety, maintenance, and institutional management.
Draft Law Expected Within Three Months
The minister stated that work on implementing the committee’s recommendations has already begun. He added that the government is preparing a dedicated law to regulate coaching centres across Delhi. The proposed legislation is expected to be placed in the public domain within the next three months, allowing stakeholders and the public to review the draft before it is finalized.
Officials believe the new legal framework will help establish uniform standards for coaching institutes while strengthening oversight and improving accountability. The government aims to ensure that educational facilities provide a secure environment for students without compromising on operational quality.
Focus on Safety, Quality and Transparency
The recommendations submitted by the Justice Guaba Committee extend beyond building safety. They include guidelines related to structural security, maintenance requirements, quality benchmarks, teacher qualifications, operational procedures, and responsible advertising practices. These measures are intended to create a more transparent system while encouraging coaching centres to maintain consistent educational and safety standards.
