A tragic collision between a coal-laden truck and a van transporting members of a musical band left seven people dead and one critically injured in Jharkhand’s Ramgarh district. The fatal accident occurred around midnight in the Barlong Budhbazar area under the Rajrappa Police Station limits. According to police officials, the force of the impact severely damaged the van, leaving several occupants trapped inside.

Chief Minister Expresses Condolences

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives. In a message shared on social media platform X, he said he was deeply saddened by the tragic accident on the Ramgarh-Bokaro road near Lari-Barlaung. He prayed for peace for those who lost their lives and extended his condolences to the bereaved families, wishing them strength to cope with the immense grief.

Police Confirm Casualties and Rescue Efforts

Ramgarh Sub-Divisional Police Officer Alok Ranjan said that six victims died at the accident site, while another person succumbed to injuries during treatment at a hospital in Ramgarh. One seriously injured survivor was referred to a hospital in Ranchi for advanced medical care. Police teams reached the location soon after receiving information and coordinated rescue operations before shifting the victims to nearby medical facilities.

Hospital Officials Provide Medical Update

Ramgarh Civil Surgeon Dr. Anil Kumar stated that eight victims were brought to the district hospital following the crash. Seven were declared dead, while the remaining injured person was found to be in critical condition and was transferred to Ranchi for specialized treatment. The bodies of the deceased have been kept for post-mortem examinations as part of the legal process.

Victims Were Travelling to Attend a Function

According to local police, the deceased belonged to the villages of Marangmarcha and Balsagra. They were travelling together to participate in a social event scheduled for Friday when the accident took place. Investigators said the collision was so severe that the passenger van was almost completely wrecked, highlighting the intensity of the impact.

Protest Over Repeated Road Accidents

The incident triggered anger among local residents, who staged a blockade on the Ramgarh-Bokaro road soon after the accident. Protesters alleged that multiple fatal road accidents had occurred in the area over the past few days and accused the district administration of failing to improve road safety measures. Some villagers claimed that at least eleven people had lost their lives in separate accidents within three days.

Police officials engaged with the demonstrators and assured them that the matter would be addressed. Following discussions with the authorities, the road blockade was peacefully lifted, restoring traffic movement. Meanwhile, police have initiated further investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision, and authorities are expected to examine the factors that led to the fatal crash.
