Anil Kapoor Reflects on the Film’s Success

In his note, Anil Kapoor said some movies leave a lasting impression even during production, and according to him, Biwi No. 1 was one of those rare projects. He mentioned that the role had originally been played by Kamal Haasan in an earlier version, but the Hindi adaptation brought him widespread appreciation and several awards during that phase of his career.

The actor also reflected on his growing friendship with Salman Khan through the film and appreciated his collaborations with actress Tabu. Kapoor noted that the chemistry shared by the cast and the emotional connection audiences still have with the movie make it especially meaningful even after nearly three decades.

Story Behind “Hai Hai Mirchi”

One of the most interesting revelations from Kapoor’s post involved singer and composer Sukhwinder Singh. According to the actor, the energetic track “Hai Hai Mirchi” was created spontaneously while the team was travelling on a flight. Kapoor described the moment as an example of the natural creativity that surrounded the making of the film.

The song later became one of the memorable tracks from the movie’s soundtrack and remains popular among fans of 1990s Bollywood music. Kapoor credited Sukhwinder Singh’s spontaneity and talent for adding a unique charm to the film’s musical identity.

Gratitude for the Film’s Team

Anil Kapoor ended his message by thanking director David Dhawan, producer Vashu Bhagnani, Ravi Jaffrey and Sukhwinder Singh for their contributions to the project. He said the cast, songs and memories attached to the film continue to hold a special place in his life.

Released in 1999, Biwi No. 1 performed strongly at the box office and became known for its comedy, emotional family drama and chartbuster soundtrack. Over the years, the film has maintained its popularity on television and digital platforms, introducing it to newer audiences as well.

Legal Dispute Linked to Film Songs

The anniversary celebrations also come at a time when producer Vashu Bhagnani is involved in an ongoing legal dispute related to intellectual property connected to the film. Reports suggest that Bhagnani has filed a case against Tips Industries and other parties over the alleged unauthorized use of material associated with Biwi No. 1.

Despite the controversy, producer Jackky Bhagnani marked the film’s 27th anniversary with a social media tribute celebrating the movie’s legacy.

On May 27, the makers of Biwi No. 1 released an official statement asserting that they remain the lawful owners of the songs “Chunnari Chunnari” and “Ishq Sona Hai.” Both tracks were featured prominently in the Salman Khan and Karisma Kapoor starrer and continue to enjoy popularity among Bollywood music listeners.

The legal matter is currently under discussion, while fans continue revisiting the film as one of the defining entertainers of its era.
