WeatherUpdate – Northern States Likely To Get Relief As Temperatures Dip
WeatherUpdate – After days of intense heat across several northern states, weather conditions are expected to change significantly over the next few days as the India Meteorological Department has predicted a decline in temperatures along with thunderstorms and strong winds in many regions.

The weather office said parts of Northwest India that have been witnessing temperatures around 45 degrees Celsius may soon experience noticeable relief. According to the latest forecast, a western disturbance moving towards the Himalayan region and the arrival of easterly winds over the plains are likely to alter the current weather pattern between May 28 and May 30.
Temperature Drop Expected Across Multiple States
IMD scientist Akhil Srivastava stated that maximum temperatures across Northwest India have remained unusually high in recent days. However, atmospheric changes are now expected to trigger thunderstorm activity over the Western Himalayan belt and nearby plains, leading to a sharp fall in daytime temperatures.
Officials said temperatures may decline by 5 to 8 degrees Celsius in several places during the next three days. In isolated locations, the drop could even touch 10 degrees Celsius. This is expected to bring relief from severe heatwave conditions affecting states such as Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.
The weather department added that changing wind patterns and moisture movement are likely to support cloud formation and unstable weather conditions across northern India.
Thunderstorms And Strong Winds Likely
Along with lower temperatures, the IMD has also warned of powerful thunderstorms and high-speed winds in many districts. Authorities said wind speeds in Punjab, Haryana and parts of Uttar Pradesh may reach between 60 and 70 kilometres per hour during thunderstorm activity.
In some areas, gusty winds could become even stronger. Forecasts suggest certain districts in Uttar Pradesh may witness winds between 80 and 90 kilometres per hour, while isolated pockets could experience speeds close to 100 kilometres per hour.
Meteorologists advised residents to remain cautious, especially during evening hours when thunderstorm activity is expected to intensify. People have been urged to avoid standing near weak structures, trees and electric poles during strong winds.
Hailstorm Warning Issued For Hill And Plain Regions
The IMD has also issued hailstorm alerts for several northern states. Weather officials said western Himalayan regions, including Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, could witness hail activity over the next few days.
In addition, some areas of Punjab, Haryana and western Uttar Pradesh are also under hailstorm warning. Experts believe that moisture-laden winds combined with changing upper-air conditions may increase the possibility of sudden weather disturbances in these areas.
Farmers have been advised to monitor local weather updates carefully, as hailstorms and strong winds may affect standing crops and outdoor activities. Disaster management teams in several states are also expected to remain alert in view of the forecast.
Heatwave Conditions May Ease Temporarily
The expected change in weather is likely to provide temporary relief after a prolonged spell of extreme heat in many northern and central regions. Over the past week, several cities recorded temperatures above normal levels, increasing health concerns among residents.
Weather experts, however, said people should continue taking precautions against sudden weather shifts. While temperatures are expected to fall for a few days, humidity and unstable atmospheric conditions may continue in certain areas.
The IMD said it will continue monitoring developments closely and issue updated advisories if weather activity intensifies further across northern India.
