Security – Forces dismantle illegal bunkers and seize explosives in Manipur operations
Security – Security personnel have intensified operations in Manipur, leading to the destruction of multiple illegal structures and the recovery of explosives, officials confirmed.

Security forces in Manipur have stepped up coordinated actions to curb militant activity, resulting in the demolition of 23 unauthorized bunkers and the seizure of a significant cache of explosives and weapons across two districts. These operations form part of a broader strategy to restore stability in areas affected by recent ethnic tensions.
Bunkers demolished in Ukhrul villages
According to police officials, the dismantling of bunkers took place on Thursday in several hill villages under the jurisdiction of Litan police station in Ukhrul district. The affected locations included Mongkot Chepu, Shongphel, Mullam, Sirarakhong, and Ringue. Authorities stated that these structures were believed to have been used for militant activities and posed a security threat to nearby communities.
During the operation, security personnel also recovered a 12-bore pump-action firearm, along with 17 live cartridges of varying calibres. In addition, 111 spent bullet casings were found at the sites, indicating prior use of the bunkers in armed confrontations.
Violence backdrop in Ukhrul district
The security action comes in the wake of continued unrest in Ukhrul district, where clashes between the Tangkhul Naga and Kuki communities have persisted since February this year. Official reports indicate that at least seven individuals have lost their lives in separate shooting incidents linked to the conflict.
The violence has also resulted in significant property damage, with more than 30 homes reportedly set ablaze during the period of unrest. Authorities have been working to contain the situation and prevent further escalation through increased patrols and targeted operations.
Arms and explosives recovered in Tengnoupal
In a separate development, another operation carried out on Wednesday in Tengnoupal district led to the recovery of weapons and explosive devices. The search was conducted in T Bongmol village, which falls under the Moreh police station area.
Security teams seized two single-barrel rifles and four 9mm pistols, each accompanied by magazines. More notably, a total of 18 improvised explosive devices were discovered during the operation. Officials confirmed that these explosives were safely neutralized at the site to eliminate any immediate risk.
Ongoing efforts to restore normalcy
Authorities have emphasized that these operations are part of sustained efforts to dismantle armed networks and prevent the misuse of weapons in conflict-prone regions. The recovery of arms and explosives is seen as a critical step in reducing the capacity for further violence.
Security agencies continue to monitor sensitive areas closely, with additional measures being implemented to ensure the safety of civilians. Officials have reiterated their commitment to maintaining law and order while encouraging dialogue to address underlying tensions.
As the situation evolves, local administration and law enforcement agencies remain focused on preventing fresh incidents and rebuilding trust within affected communities.
