Politics – Bihar Government to Face Confidence Vote in Assembly Session
Politics – The Bihar government led by the Bharatiya Janata Party is preparing to prove its majority in the state Assembly during a special one-day session scheduled for Friday.

Confidence Motion to Be Presented in Assembly
According to the official legislative agenda issued by the Assembly secretariat, Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary will formally introduce a motion seeking the House’s approval for his council of ministers. The motion will ask legislators to express their trust in the current government, marking a crucial step for the newly formed administration.
This session holds significance as it will determine the stability of the new leadership that recently took charge in the state. The proceedings are expected to move swiftly, given that the session has been specifically convened for this purpose.
Leadership Transition After Nitish Kumar’s Exit
The political shift follows the resignation of Nitish Kumar, who stepped down after being elected to the Rajya Sabha earlier this month. With his departure, Samrat Choudhary assumed office, becoming the first leader from the BJP to head the government in Bihar.
The transition marks a notable change in the state’s political landscape, as Nitish Kumar had been a central figure in Bihar politics for nearly two decades. His leadership had shaped multiple coalition arrangements over the years, making this shift particularly significant.
Composition of the New Cabinet
In the newly formed cabinet, representation from the Janata Dal (United) remains limited. Vijay Kumar Chaudhary and Bijendra Prasad Yadav are the only members from the party to be included, both taking on the role of deputy chief ministers.
Their inclusion reflects the continued partnership within the National Democratic Alliance, although the cabinet composition suggests a stronger presence of the BJP in the current setup.
NDA Expresses Confidence Ahead of Vote
Speaking to the media ahead of the session, Vijay Kumar Chaudhary stated that the government has the support and guidance of the JD(U) leadership. He emphasized that the administration intends to continue policies and governance approaches associated with Nitish Kumar’s tenure.
He also conveyed confidence in securing the trust vote without difficulty, pointing to the alliance’s substantial numerical advantage in the Assembly. According to him, the coalition remains united and prepared for the proceedings.
Strong Numbers Back the Ruling Alliance
The ruling alliance consists of five parties: the BJP, JD(U), Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas faction), Hindustani Awam Morcha, and Rashtriya Lok Morcha. Together, these parties hold a commanding position in the Assembly.
In the most recent state elections held in November last year, the coalition secured 202 out of 243 seats. This overwhelming majority places the government in a strong position as it approaches the confidence vote.
Political Significance of the Trust Vote
While the outcome of the vote is largely expected to favor the ruling alliance, the exercise remains a constitutional requirement for a newly formed government. It also serves as an opportunity for the opposition to present its stance and raise questions on governance and policy direction.
Observers note that the session will not only confirm the government’s majority but also set the tone for future political developments in Bihar. The proceedings are likely to be closely watched, given the recent changes in leadership and alliance dynamics.
As the Assembly convenes, all eyes will be on how the new government establishes its authority and outlines its priorities for the state moving forward.
