Infrastructure – Telangana Plans Ring Roads Around District Headquarters to Ease Traffic
Infrastructure – The Telangana government has initiated plans to strengthen road infrastructure by developing ring roads around major district headquarters to improve traffic flow and logistics movement.

Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has directed officials to prepare detailed proposals for constructing ring roads around key district headquarters across the state. According to an official statement, the proposed projects aim to reduce congestion inside cities while allowing heavy vehicles and goods carriers to bypass crowded urban areas.
Ring Roads Planned to Reduce Congestion in District Cities
During a review meeting of the Roads and Buildings department held at the Chief Minister’s residence in Jubilee Hills on Wednesday, officials discussed the need for improved traffic management in rapidly growing district towns. The Chief Minister stressed that ring roads should play a crucial role in diverting trucks and freight vehicles away from city centers, helping to improve traffic conditions for local commuters.
Officials were asked to ensure that the proposed ring roads are effectively integrated with the existing road network. The government also discussed the development of radial roads extending from district headquarters to connect directly with these new ring roads, which would further strengthen regional connectivity.
Strengthening Links With National Highways
To expand the state’s road network, the Chief Minister instructed officials to conduct a detailed study on linking the proposed ring roads with national highways. The goal is to improve connectivity between district headquarters and major highways, enabling faster transportation of goods and passengers across the state.
The review also included discussions about building a greenfield road that would provide direct access to Nagarjuna Sagar from the Hyderabad–Vijayawada Expressway. Officials said the proposed route could significantly reduce travel time and support tourism as well as regional economic activity.
Accelerating Construction of Road Infrastructure
The Chief Minister also reviewed the status of ongoing infrastructure projects such as Railway Over Bridges (ROBs) and Railway Under Bridges (RUBs). Officials were directed to speed up the construction of projects that have already received approval. In addition, departments were asked to prepare new proposals for additional ROBs and RUBs wherever they are required to address traffic bottlenecks near railway crossings.
Apart from transport infrastructure, the meeting also examined the progress of large healthcare projects, including the construction of teaching hospitals and major government hospitals in the state.
Push for Pollution-Free Transport System
During the review, the Chief Minister also discussed steps to promote environmentally friendly transport systems. He instructed departments to prioritize the purchase of electric vehicles for official government use.
In addition, the government plans to ensure that vehicles hired for official purposes within the CURE region also shift toward electric mobility. The initiative is part of a broader strategy to reduce pollution and promote sustainable transportation in urban areas.
Transport Department to Move Toward Digital Systems
To increase efficiency and transparency in administrative processes, the Chief Minister called for the introduction of an online system within the Transport Department to replace existing manual procedures. Digital services are expected to simplify various vehicle-related processes for citizens and improve departmental operations.
He also directed officials to construct permanent buildings for Regional Transport Offices and gradually phase out the practice of operating from rented premises.
Awareness Campaign on Road Safety
Addressing concerns about road accidents, the Chief Minister emphasized the importance of public awareness. He suggested creating short films and awareness campaigns to educate people about road safety and responsible driving practices.
In addition, land will be allocated for the development of a modern bus terminal near the proposed high-speed rail corridor at Shamshabad. Officials have been asked to prepare a comprehensive plan for the facility, which is expected to enhance passenger transport infrastructure in the region.
The review meeting was attended by Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, Chief Minister’s Principal Secretary Srinivasa Raju, Roads and Buildings Special Principal Secretary Vikas Raj, Transport Commissioner Ilambarthi, and Roads and Buildings ENC Mohan Nayak, along with other senior officials.
