Infrastructure – Delhi Aims to Lead India’s Development Push with Strong Policies

Infrastructure – Delhi’s progress in infrastructure and governance could play a crucial role in advancing India’s broader goal of becoming a developed nation, according to Delhi cabinet minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa. Speaking on Tuesday at an industry gathering in the national capital, the minister said the vision of a “Viksit Bharat” will become achievable only through coordinated policy efforts and improved infrastructure across major cities, with Delhi expected to set an example.

Delhi infrastructure development push

Delhi Positioned as a Model for National Development

Addressing participants at the Delhi State Annual Session 2025–26 and Business Conference organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Sirsa stressed that the idea of a developed India is closely tied to the progress of its capital. He noted that when the national capital moves forward with strong infrastructure, governance, and economic activity, it creates momentum for growth across the country.

According to the minister, the aspiration of building a developed India resonates with citizens nationwide. However, he added that the capital city must lead this transformation by adopting forward-looking policies and strengthening public infrastructure.

Government and Industry Partnership Highlighted

During the conference, Sirsa underlined the importance of cooperation between policymakers and the business community. He said sustainable economic growth and urban development require both sectors to work together in shaping a city that can support innovation, industry, and improved quality of life.

The minister encouraged industry leaders to actively participate in initiatives aimed at building what he described as a “future-ready Delhi.” Such collaboration, he suggested, can help ensure that the city remains competitive while also addressing challenges linked to population growth, environmental sustainability, and urban mobility.

Education Initiatives to Prepare Future Workforce

Highlighting steps taken over the past year, Sirsa pointed to improvements in the education sector as a major focus area. He said the government has launched 75 new CM Shri schools aimed at strengthening the quality of education and preparing students for emerging opportunities in a rapidly changing economy.

These institutions are intended to equip students with modern learning tools and practical skills so they can adapt to future job markets. According to the minister, investing in education is essential for long-term economic progress and social development.

Infrastructure and Transport Projects Underway

Sirsa also outlined a number of infrastructure initiatives that have been implemented or expanded recently. These include the addition of new metro lines to improve connectivity across the city, deployment of around 1,500 electric buses, and measures to increase green cover in the capital.

The minister said such projects are designed to address long-standing urban challenges such as traffic congestion and air pollution. Expanding public transport and encouraging environmentally friendly mobility options are seen as key steps toward making Delhi more sustainable and efficient.

Commitment to Business-Friendly Environment

In his remarks, Sirsa assured representatives from industry and commerce that the Delhi government intends to maintain a supportive climate for businesses. He said efforts will continue to simplify processes, encourage investment, and create conditions that help enterprises grow while contributing to the city’s economy.

The minister also shared similar views on social media, stating that better infrastructure combined with effective policy decisions will help the capital contribute significantly to India’s development ambitions.

According to Sirsa, sustained collaboration between government institutions, businesses, and citizens will be necessary to transform Delhi into a city that reflects the broader vision of a developed India.
