Education – Tamil Nadu Class 10 Board Exams Begin for Over Nine Lakh Students
Education – The Class 10 public examinations for students following the State syllabus in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry commenced on Wednesday, marking an important stage in the academic calendar for secondary school students. The examinations will continue until April 6, with lakhs of candidates appearing across thousands of centres in the two regions.

Over Nine Lakh Students Registered for Examination
Officials from the School Education Department reported that a total of 9,09,397 candidates have registered to write the Class 10 public examination this year. Among them, 8,82,806 students are currently studying in 12,467 schools operating under the State syllabus across Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
Apart from regular school students, a significant number of private candidates will also participate in the examinations. Authorities confirmed that 26,196 private applicants have enrolled to take the exam independently this year.
The examination will also be written by individuals in correctional facilities. According to official figures, 395 prison inmates have registered to appear for the Class 10 board examination, highlighting efforts to provide educational opportunities across different sections of society.
Special Facilities for Differently-Abled Candidates
The education department has arranged several support measures to ensure that students with disabilities can take the examinations without facing additional challenges. A total of 12,292 differently-abled candidates will appear for the exam this year.
To assist them during the examination process, scribes and interpreters have been appointed where required. These provisions are intended to help such students complete their papers comfortably while maintaining fairness in the examination process.
Strict Examination Procedures Introduced
Authorities have introduced several measures aimed at maintaining transparency and preventing irregularities during the examination period.
One such rule requires invigilators to seal any unused question papers in envelopes after distribution to students. This process will take place inside the examination hall and in the presence of students to ensure transparency.
Officials believe that these procedures will help strengthen trust in the examination system and reduce the possibility of malpractice.
Large Workforce Deployed to Conduct Exams
The smooth conduct of the examinations depends on the involvement of a large number of education staff members across the State. The School Education Department has appointed 49,542 invigilators to supervise the examination process in various centres.
In addition to invigilators, more than 45,000 teachers will be engaged daily in various duties such as supervision, administration, and coordination at examination centres.
These personnel will play a crucial role in ensuring that the exams proceed according to the established guidelines and schedule.
Flying Squads to Monitor Examination Centres
To further strengthen monitoring, authorities have deployed nearly 4,800 flying squads across Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. These teams will conduct surprise inspections at examination centres to detect and prevent any form of malpractice.
Education officials stated that these inspections are intended to maintain discipline and fairness during the examinations.
As part of the strict guidelines, mobile phones are completely prohibited inside examination centres. The restriction applies not only to students but also to teachers, invigilators, and all other staff involved in the examination process.
Health Support and Emergency Arrangements
Health and emergency services have also been arranged to ensure the safety of candidates during the examination period.
If a student experiences any health problem while writing the examination, arrangements have been made to immediately transfer the candidate to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
Officials said these measures are meant to ensure that no student’s well-being is compromised while participating in the exams.
Public Helpline for Examination Complaints
The School Education Department has also launched a dedicated helpline system for complaints or concerns related to the conduct of the examinations.
Members of the public can report issues by calling 9498383075 or 9498383076. The helpline will remain active every day from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. throughout the examination period.
Authorities encouraged citizens to use the helpline responsibly to report genuine concerns, helping maintain the integrity and smooth conduct of the Class 10 public examinations.
