In an X post, the Consulate expressed its “deepest condolences to her bereaved family during this moment of profound grief” and expressed its “deep sadness and shock by the murder of Ms. Himanshi Khurana, a young Indian national, in Toronto.”

It has been closely monitoring the situation over the last several days and said that, while the investigation is ongoing, the family is receiving every help available in close conjunction with local authorities.

The statement coincides with information released by Toronto Police, who said that a 30-year-old lady of Indian descent had been killed in the city and that a suspect who was acquainted with the victim was the subject of a Canada-wide arrest warrant.

The deceased was identified as Toronto resident Himanshi Khurana. In relation to the crime, police said they are looking for Abdul Ghafoori (32), a resident of Toronto. Investigators told CBC News that the incident seemed to have included “intimate partner violence.”

According to Toronto Police, a complaint of a missing individual prompted police to be called in late Friday evening. “On Friday, December 19, 2025, at approximately 10:41 pm, police responded to a call for a Missing Person in the Strachan Avenue and Wellington Street West area,” according to police.

Overnight, the hunt went on. Police said that the death was being investigated as a murder. “On Saturday, December 20, 2025, at approximately 6:30 am, officers located the missing female deceased inside a residence,” the statement read.

According to the police, the suspect and the victim knew one another. Ghafoori is sought on a nationwide warrant for first-degree murder, which carries a life sentence without the possibility of parole if premeditation and intent are proven in court.
