Adani airport: According to Group CFO, Guwahati’s new terminal is a crucial milestone in India’s “Act East” ambition
Adani airport: On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially opened the newly constructed integrated Terminal 2 at Guwahati’s Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport. Jugeshinder (Robbie) Singh, the Group CFO of Adani Group, said on LinkedIn that “This project represents a critical step in India’s ‘Act East’ vision.”

The new facility, built and operated by Adani Airport Holdings Ltd., intends to be Northeast India’s main aviation center. This project is a component of the nation’s larger plan to increase connection with markets in Southeast Asia and eastern areas.
Additionally, he said that the airport can now handle 13.1 million passengers annually instead of only 3.4 million thanks to the new terminal. An estimated Rs 4,000 crore has to be invested in the project. This investment represents a significant chunk of the group’s longer-term commitment of Rs 50,000 crore to Assamese development.
The airport is now equipped with new technology to help travelers. These include the first automatic tray retrieval system in the Northeast and biometric boarding systems. The modernized security system also includes sophisticated full-body scanners. The goal of these upgrades is to provide passengers using the new terminal a contemporary experience.
Plans for future expansion of area employment and commerce are also included in the proposal. An airplane maintenance, repair, and overhaul facility worth Rs 1,000 crore is now being developed. To help regional exports, an integrated cargo market will also be created. According to Singh, the airport would “serve as an engine for economic growth, tourism, and trade.”
Inspired by the biodiversity of the area, the terminal design is called “Bamboo Orchids.” Its emphasis on sustainability and beauty with a natural theme earned it the 2025 International Architectural Award.
According to Singh, the facility is one of the “long term & inter generational assets for the nation and its people.” The opening, he said, is a “significant day for Northeast India” since the airport offers the area a top-notch entry point.
The national aviation plan of the Adani Group is in line with this growth. Within five years, the firm intends to handle 200 million passengers annually over its whole network. Future activities at the Navi Mumbai International Airport are part of this network.
The completion of Terminal 2, according to Singh, demonstrates the team’s capacity to “execute complex, large-scale infrastructure projects that blend cultural heritage with modern technology.”
