According to Umerov’s Facebook post, talks between the US and Ukraine centered on developing a 20-point peace plan, aligning stances on US and multilateral security guarantee frameworks for Ukraine, and developing an economic and prosperity plan, according to Xinhua news agency.

Timelines and the order of subsequent actions were also negotiated by the parties.

“Ukraine remains fully committed to achieving a just and sustainable peace,” Umerov said. “Our shared priority is to stop the killing, ensure guaranteed security, and create conditions for Ukraine’s recovery, stability, and long-term prosperity.”

He said, “Peace must be not only a cessation of hostilities, but also a dignified foundation for a stable future,” and Ukrainian “close coordination” with the US and Europe would continue in the next phases.

In order to agree on a common strategic approach between Ukraine, the US, and Europe, he noted, important European national security experts attended the talks.

In a similar statement on X, US presidential special envoy Steve Witkoff said that “a series of productive and constructive meetings” had taken place over the previous three days.

Andriy Hnatov, the head of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and Umerov, the secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, were part of the Ukrainian delegation.

Witkoff, Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law, and Josh Gruenbaum, a White House employee, were among the US delegation.

Kirill Dmitriev, the special envoy of Russian President Vladimir Putin, met separately with U.S. officials in Miami, Florida, over the weekend. “The discussions are proceeding constructively,” Dmitriev said to reporters on Saturday.

Putin said during his yearly year-end news conference in Moscow on Friday that “the ball is entirely in the court of Ukraine and its European sponsors” and that Russia offers to settle the Ukraine conflict via diplomacy in addition to eradicating the underlying causes.
