Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali will have in-depth talks during the visit that will cover every facet of the two countries’ relationship, including commerce, investment, people-to-people contacts, development collaboration, and political involvement. It is anticipated that both presidents, as partners in the Global South, would reiterate their commitment to deepening friendship and broadening collaboration for mutual gain.
In anticipation of the visit, the Indian Prime Minister will be greeted by Indian flags, posters, and welcome hoardings in Addis Ababa. As Ethiopia gets ready to welcome the first Indian Prime Minister visit since 2011, the city is feeling more excited than ever.

In Africa and the Global South, Ethiopia is seen as a significant and reliable partner for India, and the visit is anticipated to further strengthen bilateral ties.
PM Modi emphasized the importance of Addis Ababa as the African Union’s headquarters in his farewell remarks on Monday. He pointed out that the African Union was accepted as a permanent member of the G20 during India’s 2023 G20 Presidency. He said he is looking forward to speaking to a Joint Session of the Ethiopian Parliament, engaging with members of the Indian diaspora, and having in-depth conversations with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.
The Prime Minister said, “I am excited to share my thoughts on India’s journey as the ‘Mother of Democracy’ and the value that the India-Ethiopia partnership can bring to the Global South.”
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has participated actively in the Voice of Global South conference in the past. The Ministry of External Affairs claims that India’s sustained commitment to enhancing South-South cooperation and strengthening its alliance with Africa is reflected in the visit.
