CricketNews – Ashok Sharma Added to India A Squad After Yudhvir Injury Setback

CricketNews – India A have made a change to their squad for the ongoing one-day tri-series in Sri Lanka, with fast bowler Ashok Sharma coming in as a replacement for Yudhvir Singh, who has been ruled out due to a shoulder injury. The tournament, featuring India A, Sri Lanka A and Afghanistan A, is currently being played in Dambulla.

Injury Forces Change in Squad

The decision was confirmed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) after Yudhvir experienced discomfort in his right shoulder during a bowling session on June 13. The pacer had reportedly complained of similar pain earlier while taking part in a fielding drill on June 11. Following medical assessments, the team management opted to withdraw him from the competition.

According to the BCCI, specialists examined the injury and advised a structured rehabilitation programme. The recovery process will be monitored by the BCCI Centre of Excellence, where Yudhvir will undergo treatment and conditioning aimed at ensuring a complete return to fitness. Medical experts identified the issue as a right rotator cuff injury, requiring careful management before he resumes competitive cricket.

Ashok Rewarded for Recent Performances

Ashok Sharma’s inclusion comes after a series of impressive performances in domestic and franchise cricket. The right-arm pacer earned recognition during the 2025-26 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, where he finished as the tournament’s leading wicket-taker. His tally of 22 wickets in just ten matches established him as one of the most promising fast bowlers on the domestic circuit.

The youngster also attracted attention during IPL 2026 while representing Gujarat Titans. Despite playing only six matches, he collected six wickets and consistently troubled batters with his pace. Gujarat finished the season as runners-up, and Ashok’s contributions were viewed as an encouraging sign for the franchise’s future.

Domestic Move Strengthens Gujarat Setup

Recently, Ashok completed a move from Rajasthan to Gujarat ahead of the upcoming domestic season. The transfer has been viewed as a significant addition to Gujarat’s bowling resources, particularly given his strong form over the past year.

Sources familiar with the development indicated that all formalities related to the transfer had been completed, allowing him to represent Gujarat in domestic competitions. His ability to generate high speeds has also drawn attention, with one delivery during IPL 2026 reportedly clocked at 154.2 kmph.

Previous India A Experience

This is not Ashok’s first involvement with the India A setup. Earlier this year, he featured in preparatory matches against the United States and Namibia ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. Those appearances provided valuable exposure at a higher level and helped strengthen his case for future national selection opportunities.

His latest call-up offers another chance to impress selectors while competing against strong opposition in Sri Lanka. With India A continuing their campaign in the tri-series, the team management will hope Ashok can quickly adapt and provide additional depth to the pace attack.

Updated India A Squad

The revised India A squad includes Tilak Varma as captain and Ruturaj Gaikwad as vice-captain. Other members are Priyansh Arya, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Ayush Badoni, Nishant Sindhu, Suryansh Shedge, Prabhsimran Singh, Kumar Kushagra, Vipraj Nigam, Yash Thakur, Anshul Kamboj, Arshad Khan, Anukul Roy and Ashok Sharma.
