Cricket Records – Mushfiqur Rahim Creates History With Landmark Test Century

Cricket Records – Bangladesh’s experienced batter Mushfiqur Rahim delivered another memorable performance in Test cricket by scoring a historic century against Pakistan during the second Test at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Monday. The veteran cricketer reached his 14th Test hundred, becoming the Bangladeshi player with the highest number of centuries in the longest format of the game.

The milestone came during the third day of the match when Rahim brought up his century with a boundary off Mohammad Abbas in the 85th over. The achievement was warmly celebrated by spectators at the venue, while teammates in the dressing room applauded the innings with a standing ovation. Playing his 102nd Test match, the senior batter once again showed his value in Bangladesh’s red-ball setup.

Historic Achievement for Bangladesh Cricket

Rahim’s impressive innings did not stop with the century alone. During his knock of 137 runs, he also crossed 16,000 international runs across all formats, becoming the first player from Bangladesh to reach that mark. The experienced batter now holds more than 16,000 international runs combined in Tests, One-Day Internationals, and T20 Internationals.

The 39-year-old already stands as Bangladesh’s highest run-scorer in Test cricket. His latest innings included 12 boundaries and one six, highlighting both patience and controlled aggression on a surface that offered assistance to bowlers earlier in the game.

Bangladesh Sets Massive Target

Thanks largely to Rahim’s innings and solid contributions from the middle order, Bangladesh established a challenging target of 437 runs for Pakistan in the second Test. The hosts entered the contest with confidence after registering a 104-run victory in the opening match of the series in Dhaka.

Bangladesh now has a strong opportunity to secure a clean sweep in the two-match series on home soil. The bowlers will be aiming to dismiss Pakistan within the remaining days of the match to complete another important Test victory.

Rahim’s Impact Throughout the Series

The senior batter has played a crucial role throughout the series against Pakistan. In the first Test, he scored a valuable 71 runs in the opening innings and added another useful contribution in the second innings. His calm presence and experience have provided stability to the Bangladesh batting unit during important moments.

Rahim is currently focused only on Test cricket after stepping away from T20 Internationals in 2022 and retiring from ODI cricket following the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025. Despite reducing his involvement in international formats, he continues to remain one of Bangladesh’s most dependable performers in red-ball cricket. Along with his 14 Test centuries, he also has 29 half-centuries in the format.

Match Situation in Sylhet

Earlier in the match, Bangladesh posted 278 runs in the first innings after Pakistan elected to bowl first. Wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das led the scoring with a fluent 126, playing attacking cricket with 16 fours and two sixes at an impressive strike rate.

For Pakistan, Khurram Shahzad picked up four wickets while Mohammad Abbas claimed three to keep Bangladesh under pressure during the first innings.

Pakistan answered with 232 runs in reply, helped by Babar Azam’s fighting knock of 68 from 84 deliveries. Sajid Khan also provided late momentum with a quick 38-run contribution that included several boundaries and sixes.

Bangladesh’s bowling attack responded effectively as Taijul Islam and Nahid Rana collected three wickets each. Taskin Ahmed and Mehidy Hasan Miraz also chipped in with important breakthroughs, helping the hosts secure a first-innings lead of 46 runs.

Bangladesh Eyes Series Whitewash

With Pakistan facing a demanding chase of 437 runs, Bangladesh remains in a commanding position heading into the closing stages of the Test match. The home side will now look to capitalize on the advantage and secure all ten wickets required for a series whitewash.

Rahim’s latest performance has once again highlighted his importance to Bangladesh cricket, especially in the Test arena where his consistency and experience continue to guide the national side during crucial matches.
