Bridge – Vasishta Godavari Bridge Project Moves Ahead with Fresh Push from Centre and State

Bridge – A long-awaited infrastructure project aimed at improving connectivity across the Vasishta Godavari is finally moving closer to execution, as both the Central and Andhra Pradesh governments have begun taking key steps to move the proposal forward. Estimated to cost around ₹580 crore, the bridge project has remained on the drawing board for several years despite multiple announcements and ceremonial launches.

Vasishta godavari bridge project progress

Project Alignment Revised After Earlier Proposal

The bridge was originally planned to connect Narasapuram with Sakhinetipalli. However, during the previous YSRCP administration, the alignment was redesigned. Under the revised plan, the bridge will now link Rameswaram in Dr BR Ambedkar Konaseema district with Rajulanka in the Narasapur Rural mandal. Former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy had inaugurated the project through a foundation ceremony in Narasapur, but progress could not continue because of administrative procedures and technical challenges.

Road Network Planned Alongside the Bridge

The updated proposal is not limited to the bridge alone. It also includes a comprehensive road network designed to improve regional transport. According to the project blueprint, a 14-kilometre approach road will connect Gudimellanka on National Highway 216 with Rameswaram. The main bridge will span the Vasishta Godavari between Rameswaram and Rajulanka, while another seven-kilometre link road will pass through Lakshmaneswaram before joining NH-216 near Seetharampuram. Officials believe this integrated transport corridor will improve access between several important locations in the region.

Tender Evaluation Process in Progress

The National Highways Authority has already received interest from contractors for the construction work. Deputy Engineer N. Srinivas stated that four companies have submitted bids for the project. The technical examination of the tender documents is currently being carried out in New Delhi. Once the evaluation process is completed and the contract is officially awarded, construction activities are expected to begin without further delay.

Government Sees Strong Development Potential

State Water Resources Minister Nimmala Ramanaidu described the bridge as a major infrastructure initiative that could transform transportation and economic activity in both Konaseema and the Narasapuram region of West Godavari district. He said the project is expected to strengthen regional connectivity while supporting long-term development through better movement of people, agricultural produce, and commercial goods.

The minister also expressed confidence that adequate financial resources would be available throughout the construction period. He said the government intends to accelerate work after the contract is awarded so that the bridge can be completed within the targeted timeline of 2029.

Better Connectivity Expected Across Godavari Region

Once operational, the bridge is expected to significantly reduce travel time between the two sides of the Vasishta Godavari and offer a more efficient transport route for daily commuters, businesses, and freight movement. Improved road access is also likely to support tourism by making travel across the Godavari delta easier and more convenient.

Residents and businesses have long awaited improved infrastructure in the area, and the project is expected to play an important role in regional development. With the tender process now advancing and government agencies actively working on the next phase, the long-delayed bridge appears to be entering a decisive stage after years of uncertainty.
