Weather Alert – IMD Warns of Heavy Rain, Strong Winds Across Several States This Week
Weather Alert – The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh warning as active monsoon conditions are expected to bring widespread rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds across many parts of the country. The department has indicated that the next 14 hours could be especially significant, with severe weather likely to affect several states. People living in vulnerable locations have been urged to stay informed through official weather updates and take necessary safety measures.
Heavy Rainfall Expected Across Northern States
According to the latest forecast released by the IMD, rainfall activity is likely to remain widespread over Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, and Uttarakhand during the week. The weather system is also expected to strengthen over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan from Monday onward. Several districts in these regions may receive heavy to very heavy rainfall as the monsoon continues to remain active.
The department has also highlighted the possibility of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and powerful wind gusts in parts of Rajasthan and Uttarakhand. Residents have been advised to avoid open fields, isolated trees, and other exposed locations during periods of severe weather.
Strong Winds May Cause Local Disruptions
The IMD has warned that wind speeds could touch 80 kmph in some areas, increasing the likelihood of uprooted trees, damage to power lines, traffic delays, and temporary power outages. Waterlogging is also expected in low-lying areas where heavy rain continues for extended periods.

The IMD has also forecast significant rainfall across eastern India in the coming days. Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, Jharkhand, and Bihar are all expected to witness widespread monsoon showers.
Among these states, Odisha is likely to experience the most intense spell of rainfall. The department has predicted heavy to very heavy rain, with isolated locations expected to receive extremely heavy rainfall on July 27. Jharkhand is also likely to record heavy rainfall, while rainfall activity is expected to increase steadily across Bihar during the week.

With active monsoon conditions continuing across multiple regions, the IMD has appealed to the public to remain cautious and rely on official weather advisories for the latest information. People have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall and stay away from flood-prone, waterlogged, and landslide-sensitive areas whenever possible.
