Parliament – NDA Holds Weekly Strategy Meeting as NCPI Joins Alliance Gathering
Parliament – The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) convened its weekly parliamentary meeting on Tuesday as the newly formed Nationalist Citizens Party of India (NCPI) participated in the alliance’s discussions for the first time, marking a notable development during the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament.
The NDA Parliamentary Party assembled for its regular ‘Mangal Milan’ meeting at 9:30 am in the GMC Balayogi Auditorium located inside the Parliament Library Building. The gathering comes at a time when both Houses of Parliament are witnessing intense debates over examination reforms and opposition protests concerning the alleged police action against students.
NCPI Marks Its First Participation
The latest meeting carried added significance as the NCPI formally joined the alliance’s parliamentary interaction for the first time after its formation. Several lawmakers associated with the party, many of whom were previously linked to the Trinamool Congress, were expected to attend the session alongside other NDA members.
Among those likely to be present were Sudeep Bandopadhyay, Kakoli Ghosh, Shatabdi Roy, Sharmila Sarkar and Mitali Bagh, reflecting the party’s entry into the alliance’s regular parliamentary coordination process. Their participation is being viewed as an important step in strengthening communication within the NDA during the current parliamentary session.
Focus on Monsoon Session Challenges
The weekly meeting took place against the backdrop of a politically charged Monsoon Session, where discussions on examination reforms have emerged as one of the principal issues before Parliament. Opposition parties have also continued raising concerns over the reported police action involving students, leading to repeated disruptions and sharp exchanges inside the House.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was scheduled to address the NDA Members of Parliament during the meeting, outlining the government’s approach to key legislative matters and parliamentary strategy for the remainder of the session.
Government Reiterates Support for Students
During an earlier edition of the NDA’s ‘Mangal Milan’ meeting, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju had shared the Prime Minister’s message regarding concerns surrounding the alleged NEET examination paper leak.
According to Rijiju, the Prime Minister emphasised that the government stands firmly with students and views examination paper leaks as a serious national issue requiring decisive action. He stated that those responsible for irregularities should face strict legal consequences and stressed that such incidents should not become subjects of political confrontation.
The government’s position has consistently highlighted the need to protect the integrity of competitive examinations while ensuring that deserving students are not adversely affected by cases of malpractice.
Opposition Continues to Raise Objections
The inclusion of the NCPI in the NDA’s parliamentary activities has also attracted attention from opposition parties. During an earlier all-party meeting held ahead of the Monsoon Session, several opposition leaders briefly staged a walkout to register their protest against the government’s decision to invite the NCPI.
The protest underscored the continuing political disagreements between the ruling alliance and opposition parties, which have frequently clashed over procedural and political issues during the current session.
With crucial legislative business still pending and multiple contentious subjects expected to dominate parliamentary proceedings, the NDA’s internal coordination meetings are likely to remain an important platform for shaping the alliance’s strategy in the days ahead.
