Stock Market – Indian Equities Open Flat as Global Chip Selloff Weighs on Investor Mood
Stock Market – Domestic benchmark indices began Tuesday’s trading session on a subdued note as cautious global sentiment, driven by a steep decline in semiconductor shares across international markets, influenced investor confidence.

The Indian equity market opened with limited movement, reflecting weakness across Asian exchanges. The BSE Sensex started the day at 76,831.75, marginally lower by 4 points, while the NSE Nifty 50 opened at 23,971.25, down 24.70 points. The cautious opening followed overnight pressure in global technology stocks, particularly semiconductor companies, which affected overall market sentiment.
IT Sector Outperforms in Early Trade
Despite the soft market opening, information technology stocks emerged as the strongest performers during the initial trading hours. The Nifty IT index climbed nearly 2 percent, supported by buying interest in leading technology companies. The Nifty MidSmall IT & Telecom index also recorded gains of around 1 percent.
Apart from technology, sectors such as real estate, healthcare, and pharmaceuticals traded in positive territory, providing selective support to the broader market even as overall investor sentiment remained restrained.
Energy and PSU Banking Stocks Lag Behind
While several sectors posted gains, energy-related stocks remained under pressure. The Nifty Oil & Gas index declined around 0.30 percent in early trade, making it one of the weakest-performing sectoral indices. Public sector banking shares also witnessed selling, with the Nifty PSU Bank index slipping approximately 0.26 percent.
The mixed sectoral performance indicated that investors were adopting a selective approach rather than making broad-based market bets.
Global Semiconductor Weakness Impacts Sentiment
Market participants remained cautious after heavy selling in global semiconductor stocks. The decline followed the highly anticipated market debut of China’s ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT), which intensified concerns about increasing competition within the global memory chip industry.
The sharp correction in chipmakers affected technology stocks worldwide and contributed to a risk-off mood across international financial markets, influencing Asian equities as well as Indian benchmarks.
Analysts Highlight Important Technical Levels
According to market analysts, Indian equities may continue to experience short-term volatility because of weak overseas cues, even though benchmark indices recovered strongly in the previous trading session.
On Monday, the Nifty ended a five-session losing streak by advancing 228 points to settle at 23,995. Since touching a recent low of 23,606 on Friday, the index has recovered more than 400 points, indicating renewed buying at lower levels.
Experts believe that the 23,606 mark remains an important technical support as it aligns with the upward trendline connecting the April swing low of 22,182 and the June swing low of 23,070. On the upside, analysts suggest that a decisive close above 24,200 would strengthen bullish momentum, while immediate support for the index is placed near the 23,800 level.
Asian Markets Trade Lower While Wall Street Delivers Mixed Close
Most major Asian markets traded in negative territory on Tuesday. Japan’s Nikkei index dropped more than 4 percent, while South Korea’s KOSPI witnessed a significantly sharper decline of nearly 10 percent. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index remained largely unchanged during early trading.
In the United States, Wall Street delivered a mixed performance overnight. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained around 0.5 percent, the S&P 500 finished almost unchanged, and the Nasdaq Composite slipped 0.2 percent as losses in semiconductor companies weighed on technology shares.
Crude Oil Prices Ease
Global crude oil prices also moved lower during the session. Brent crude, the international benchmark, fell 1.62 percent to $86.50 per barrel. Meanwhile, US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude declined 1.68 percent to $80.64 per barrel, reflecting softer commodity prices alongside cautious global market sentiment.
