Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said the country’s expanding ecosystem is helping position India as a significant force in the global space sector while encouraging homegrown innovation.
Minister Commends Skyroot Aerospace Team
Following a meeting with Skyroot Aerospace Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer Pawan Kumar Chandana and Co-founder Naga Bharath Daka, Goyal praised the company for the successful Vikram-1 mission. The achievement marked a historic milestone as Vikram-1 became India’s first privately developed and launched orbital rocket, representing an important step in the nation’s evolving space programme.
Sharing his thoughts on social media, the minister recalled signing a postcard on June 10, 2026, expressing confidence in the mission’s success. He described the gesture as a meaningful reminder of India’s remarkable transformation—from striving to access space to establishing its presence beyond Earth through indigenous innovation and private sector participation.
Focus on Expanding the Space Startup Ecosystem
According to Goyal, discussions with the Skyroot leadership extended beyond the recent launch and centered on the future of India’s commercial space industry. Key topics included strengthening the country’s startup ecosystem, encouraging innovation-led enterprises, and creating opportunities that motivate highly skilled engineers and researchers to pursue careers and build advanced technologies within India.

Skyroot Aerospace also held discussions with Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw during its engagements in the national capital.
