Traffic Management – The Delhi Traffic Police has rolled out a new digital payment facility that allows motorists to settle traffic fines immediately at the location of enforcement. The initiative enables commuters to make payments through UPI, debit cards, and credit cards using upgraded handheld devices carried by traffic personnel across the city.
The move is part of a broader effort to modernize traffic enforcement and simplify the process for road users. Officials said approximately 1,500 advanced e-challan devices have already been distributed among field officers stationed at key locations throughout the national capital. These devices are expected to streamline enforcement procedures while offering greater convenience to the public.
Digital Payments Available on the Spot
Under the new system, motorists who receive traffic challans can pay their penalties instantly through cashless methods. The facility is available not only for newly issued fines but also for pending compoundable challans, allowing individuals to clear outstanding dues without visiting separate offices or payment centers.
Authorities believe that the availability of multiple digital payment options will reduce delays and make compliance easier for commuters. The initiative is also expected to encourage wider adoption of secure electronic transactions in public services.

According to senior traffic officials, the newly deployed handheld machines come equipped with several advanced capabilities designed to improve operational efficiency. Apart from generating challans more quickly, the devices can process payments in real time and maintain digital records with greater accuracy.
The machines also allow traffic personnel to capture photographs of vehicles and violators during enforcement actions. In addition, vehicle owners can receive notifications on their registered mobile numbers if their vehicles are towed, ensuring timely communication and improved transparency.

Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Vijayanta Goyal Arya said the technological upgrade is aimed at strengthening transparency in the challan issuance process and improving overall traffic management across Delhi.
Officials noted that digital records generated through the new system will help maintain accurate enforcement data while reducing the chances of administrative errors. The enhanced system is expected to support better monitoring and record-keeping, making traffic regulation more efficient.
