SupremeCourt – Law Students Taken Into Custody After Disturbance During Supreme Court Hearing
SupremeCourt –Two law students have been arrested after allegedly disrupting proceedings inside the Supreme Court by using abusive language, scattering documents, and creating chaos during an ongoing hearing. According to police officials, the incident occurred while the court was considering a petition in which one of the accused was representing himself. Authorities said the courtroom disturbance interrupted judicial proceedings and prompted immediate action by security personnel.

Police Identify Both Accused
The arrested individuals have been identified as 24-year-old Prabal Pratap from Uttar Pradesh’s Etawah district and 23-year-old Chander Bhan from Raebareli district. Officials said Pratap is pursuing the third year of his law degree, while Bhan is currently enrolled in the second year. Investigators confirmed that both were detained following the incident and are now part of an ongoing inquiry.
Incident Reported During Court Hearing
According to police, the episode took place on July 10 inside Court No. 13 of the Supreme Court during the hearing of the case titled “Prabal Pratap and Another Vs. State of Uttar Pradesh through Commissioner.” Officials stated that Pratap, who was appearing as the petitioner in person, allegedly began shouting abusive remarks during the proceedings before throwing papers inside the courtroom. The sudden disruption created disorder and affected the normal conduct of the hearing.
Security Personnel Faced Obstruction
Officials said courtroom security staff immediately stepped in to restore order and prevent the situation from escalating further. However, investigators alleged that the accused resisted attempts to restrain them and interfered with officials while they were performing their assigned duties. Based on the incident and observations made during the hearing, appropriate legal action was initiated against both individuals.
Criminal Case Registered Under BNS
Police registered a case at Tilak Marg Police Station under Sections 132, 221, 224, and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The complaint was filed on the basis of a statement provided by members of the Supreme Court security staff. Authorities said the investigation is focused on examining the events inside the courtroom and gathering all relevant evidence connected with the disturbance.
Medical Examination Conducted
Following directions linked to the observations made by the Supreme Court regarding the behaviour of the accused, both individuals underwent medical evaluation at the Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences (IHBAS). Police said the medical opinion concluded that neither of them required any immediate active psychiatric intervention at the time of examination.
Investigation Continues After Arrest
During the investigation, police recovered pamphlets allegedly containing objectionable language from the possession of the accused. Officials said these materials have been seized as part of the evidence in the case. After being taken into custody, both accused were produced before the competent court, which granted police custody to facilitate further investigation. Authorities said the inquiry is continuing to determine all circumstances surrounding the incident and whether any additional evidence or involvement emerges during the course of the probe.
