Punjab: A violent altercation between opposing prisoner factions leaves the superintendent of Ludhiana Jail gravely wounded
Punjab: Following a violent conflict between two groups of detainees, Kulvant Sidhu, the superintendent of Ludhiana Central Jail, was hurt. Commissioner Swapan Sharma of Ludhiana visited the prison to assess the condition.

Inmates reportedly assaulted prison authorities during a regular inspection. There have also apparently been attacks on police officers stationed inside the facility. Sidhu suffered severe head injuries and was sent to a private hospital for treatment. The cause of the commotion is still a mystery.
The police said that the two gangs, which consisted of ten and seven prisoners, respectively, used brick fragments that had been positioned on the boundary wall to assault one another.
Several high-ranking police and prison officials arrived at the scene after the event, and more police officers were sent in to maintain order.
Congress criticizes the administration of Punjab
The Punjab administration, headed by Bhagwant Mann, has come under fire from the Congress Party for the state’s law and order problems. Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, MP for Ludhiana and the head of the Punjab Congress unit, said that because criminals were “fearless,” public safety was in jeopardy in the states.
“A violent altercation inside Ludhiana Jail reveals Punjab’s governance’s total failure. How is public safety guaranteed outside of a prison if law and order cannot be maintained there? Criminals feel unafraid under @AAPPunjab leadership, and the system seems powerless. This is a collapse of law and order, not “badlav,” he wrote on X.
The government wants a report.
According to PTI, quoting sources, Punjab Jail Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar was made aware of the issue and requested that jail officials provide a thorough report on the occurrence.
