JPSC Scam – The Crime Investigation Department (CID) has intensified its investigation into the alleged recruitment examination irregularities in Jharkhand, with fresh arrests expanding the scope of the ongoing probe.
The Crime Investigation Department (CID) of Jharkhand has arrested five more people in connection with the alleged irregularities linked to recruitment examinations conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC). The latest action has increased the total number of arrests in the case to 19, reflecting the continued efforts of investigating agencies to uncover the complete chain of events behind the alleged examination malpractice.
Investigation Continues Under Special Team
The inquiry is being carried out by a Special Investigation Team (SIT), which has been assigned to examine every aspect of the alleged recruitment irregularities. Investigators are scrutinising digital evidence, application records, technical data, and other relevant documents to determine whether examination procedures were manipulated. Officials have indicated that the investigation remains active, with additional evidence being reviewed as the case progresses.
Chief Minister Meets Governor Over Examination Issue
On August 5, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren met Governor Santosh Gangwar at Lok Bhavan to discuss the allegations surrounding recruitment examinations conducted by both the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC). The discussion also covered the ongoing protests by job aspirants in Ranchi, who have been demanding greater transparency in the recruitment process.
During the meeting, Governor Gangwar reportedly described the alleged examination irregularities as a matter of serious concern and emphasised that recruitment processes must remain transparent to maintain the confidence of young candidates seeking government employment.
Government Assures Fair Action
According to an official statement, Chief Minister Hemant Soren assured the Governor that the state government is committed to ensuring justice for students and job aspirants. He stated that no unfair treatment would be allowed against candidates and that every necessary measure would be taken to address genuine concerns arising from the controversy.
Speaking to reporters later, the Chief Minister said that several accused had already been arrested and sent to jail, while investigative agencies were conducting searches at different locations as part of the inquiry. He expressed confidence that the ongoing investigation would eventually lead to a clear and lawful resolution. Soren also said that although he had not yet discussed the matter with the Union Home Minister, he would do so if circumstances required.
Dialogue With Protesting Aspirants
The Chief Minister also reiterated that his government remains open to discussions with students protesting against the alleged recruitment irregularities. He said candidates are free to present their concerns directly to the government and assured that their demands would receive serious consideration. According to him, the administration is already aware of many of the issues being raised and is prepared to examine all representations carefully.
Ruling Party Extends Support
The ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) has also expressed support for the protesting aspirants. Party leader Manoj Pandey stated that the government is expected to establish a high-level committee within the next few days to examine the allegations in detail. He further said that strict action would be taken wherever evidence establishes wrongdoing.
Background of the Protest
The protests began after the declaration of the results of the 14th JPSC Civil Services Preliminary Examination on July 5. A section of candidates alleged irregularities in the recruitment process and questioned the fairness of the examination. Since then, aspirants have continued round-the-clock demonstrations and an indefinite sit-in in Ranchi, demanding transparency, accountability, and a thorough review of the recruitment process.
Among their primary demands are the cancellation of the Preliminary Test for the 14th JPSC Combined Civil Services Examination and a detailed review of examinations conducted through TDPL agencies.
