Monsoon Alert – IMD Warns of Heavy Rain, Thunderstorms Across Multiple States
Monsoon Alert – The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a nationwide weather warning as an active monsoon system is expected to bring heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds across several parts of the country. People living in vulnerable regions have been advised to remain alert and regularly follow official weather updates, as conditions may change quickly over the coming days.

IMD Issues Rain and Thunderstorm Warning
The IMD has forecast intense rainfall across 15 states on Saturday, with several areas likely to experience thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds reaching speeds of up to 70 kmph. States such as Uttar Pradesh and Bihar are among those expected to receive significant rainfall as monsoon activity strengthens over northern and eastern India.
Officials warned that powerful winds could uproot trees, damage electricity infrastructure, and affect standing crops in agricultural regions. Lightning is also expected to remain a major concern, particularly in eastern parts of the country, where residents have been urged to avoid unnecessary outdoor movement during storm activity.
Public Advised to Follow Safety Measures
The weather department has asked residents to stay indoors whenever thunderstorms develop and avoid taking shelter beneath trees due to the risk of lightning strikes. Authorities have also cautioned that severe weather could temporarily disrupt road transport, rail services, and electricity supply in some locations.
People have been encouraged to keep track of advisories issued by local administrations and emergency agencies, especially in districts likely to experience prolonged spells of heavy rain.
Himachal Pradesh Faces Extended Wet Spell
In Himachal Pradesh, the Meteorological Centre in Shimla has announced an Orange Alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall across several districts between July 19 and July 23. The warning has been issued as a fresh Western Disturbance is expected to interact with the southwest monsoon, creating conditions for widespread rainfall across the hill state.
According to Meteorological Centre Director Shobhit Katiyar, a Yellow Alert remains in force for Saturday in Mandi, Kangra, Kullu, Shimla, and Sirmaur districts. Local authorities have appealed to residents and tourists to remain cautious, particularly in areas known for landslides, overflowing streams, and flash flood risks during intense rainfall.
Jammu and Kashmir Under Flash Flood Watch
The IMD has also released a separate weather warning for Jammu and Kashmir, where heavy rainfall is expected to increase the possibility of flash floods, landslides, and waterlogging in low-lying areas over the next few days.
Weather officials indicated that conditions may become particularly severe on Saturday night, Sunday morning, and again between July 20 and July 22. During this period, people have been advised to remain extra vigilant and avoid unnecessary travel unless essential.
Authorities Strengthen Emergency Preparedness
Residents in Jammu and Kashmir have been advised to stay away from rivers, streams, and waterfalls while exercising caution on mountainous roads that may become slippery or blocked due to falling debris. Local administrations have urged citizens to comply with official instructions issued during adverse weather conditions.
Disaster management agencies have also been directed to maintain a high level of preparedness so that emergency response teams can react promptly if flooding, landslides, or other weather-related incidents occur.
IMD Urges Regular Monitoring of Official Updates
As the active monsoon spell continues, the IMD has stressed the importance of relying only on official weather bulletins for the latest information. Since rainfall patterns can change rapidly, timely updates and adherence to safety advisories will play an important role in reducing weather-related risks across the affected regions.
