ExaminationReform – Rahul Gandhi Calls for Overhaul of Exam System After Paper Leak Concerns

ExaminationReform –  Rahul Gandhi on Saturday urged a complete restructuring of India’s examination system, saying repeated paper leak incidents have deeply affected students and their families. The Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha said stronger safeguards are essential to protect candidates and ensure that parents’ years of sacrifice are not overshadowed by uncertainty and distress.

Gandhi Recalls Meeting With Student’s Family

In a post shared on X, the Congress MP reflected on his recent interaction with Rajesh, the father of Riya, a student who allegedly died by suicide following the controversy surrounding the NEET examination paper leak. Gandhi said the family’s grief represented the emotional burden carried by many households affected by examination irregularities.

He wrote that witnessing the father’s sorrow moved everyone present and described the tragedy as far greater than the loss experienced by a single family. According to Gandhi, several parents have suffered because paper leaks have disrupted the dreams and futures of their children. He stressed that the examination framework should be rebuilt to provide students with confidence and security while ensuring that parents receive the rewards of their dedication instead of heartbreak.

Appeal to Raise the Matter in Parliament

Gandhi’s remarks came a day after he met Riya’s father during the ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ programme in Dehradun. The interaction took place at Bannu School Ground, where the grieving father shared the sequence of events leading up to his daughter’s death.

According to him, Riya returned home after her examination on May 3 in a cheerful mood and was satisfied with her performance. However, when reports of the alleged paper leak emerged, she showed him the information on her mobile phone. He said he initially believed the reports were inaccurate, but she remained convinced that the examination paper had indeed been leaked.

During the discussion, Rajesh appealed to Gandhi to raise the matter in Parliament so that no other family would have to experience a similar loss. He said he hoped meaningful action would be taken to prevent such incidents from affecting future students.

Nationwide Campaign Highlights Student Concerns

The Congress leader launched the nationwide ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ campaign from Kota in Rajasthan on June 17. The initiative aims to highlight issues related to examination irregularities and the challenges faced by students across the country.

Addressing participants during the Dehradun programme, Gandhi claimed that examination paper leaks had affected nearly 7.5 crore young people over the past decade. He alleged that authorities had failed to effectively curb the recurring problem despite its impact on students’ academic futures.

Allegations Over Technology and Paper Leaks

While speaking at the event, Gandhi alleged that advanced technology was being misused to facilitate paper leaks. He claimed that examination papers could allegedly be accessed through online platforms such as Telegram and Signal by individuals willing to pay large sums of money.

He also asserted that there had been 152 paper leak incidents during the past ten years and alleged that no one had been held accountable in connection with those cases. Calling the issue one of national importance, Gandhi said it directly affects the future of India’s youth and undermines the hard work and commitment shown by students and their families.

The examination paper leak issue has remained a major subject of political debate in recent months, with opposition parties demanding stronger safeguards, greater transparency, and stricter accountability in the country’s recruitment and entrance examination processes.
