Labour – Andhra Pradesh to Establish Worker Support Centres Across State

Labour – Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has unveiled a plan to set up dedicated Labour Addas across Andhra Pradesh, aimed at improving support systems for workers. In the initial phase, 15 such centres will be developed in key cities and towns. The announcement was made during May Day celebrations held in Pamidimukkala village in the Pamarru Assembly constituency of Krishna district, where the Chief Minister also honoured workers and employers with the Shramashakti Awards.

Focus on Skill Development and Worker Support

Addressing the gathering, Naidu stated that the proposed Labour Addas will not only serve as meeting points for workers but will gradually evolve into skill development hubs. These centres are expected to help labourers enhance their capabilities and access better employment opportunities. He also interacted with pension beneficiaries and distributed social security pensions during the event.

Expansion of Healthcare Facilities for Workers

To strengthen healthcare infrastructure for the workforce, the government plans to establish new Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) hospitals in locations such as Atchutapuram, Guntur, Kurnool, Sri City, and Amaravati. These facilities are intended to provide accessible and improved medical services to workers and their families. The Chief Minister noted that just as labourers contribute significantly to the economy, the government remains committed to their welfare and overall development.

Welfare Schemes and Financial Assistance

Naidu highlighted several welfare measures designed to support workers. These include financial assistance of Rs 25,000 for the marriage of construction workers or their daughters, Rs 20,000 for childbirth, Rs 60,000 in case of natural death, and Rs 20,000 towards funeral expenses. Additionally, four labour courts are operational to address disputes and ensure timely resolution of worker-related issues.

Infrastructure Projects and Water Security Plans

Speaking on infrastructure, Naidu reaffirmed that the Polavaram Irrigation Project will be completed and dedicated to the nation by the time of the Godavari Pushkarams in 2027. He also assured that steps are being taken to prevent water shortages in the Krishna delta region.

Regarding the Machilipatnam Port project, the Chief Minister said that despite earlier delays due to cancelled tenders, construction activities such as breakwater development, dredging, and offshore work are now progressing steadily. The government aims to complete the port by December this year.

Investment Prospects and Economic Growth

Naidu pointed out that Andhra Pradesh is attracting significant investments, including a major data centre project by Google. He added that interest from large corporations, including Reliance, which has proposed a $17 billion data centre investment, reflects growing confidence in the state’s economic potential.

Political Remarks and Governance Commitments

The Chief Minister criticised the previous administration for what he described as ineffective governance and emphasised that the current government has been working to rebuild systems over the past 22 months. He reiterated that there will be no increase in electricity charges, contrasting this with tariff hikes implemented earlier.

Naidu also mentioned that he plans to directly gather feedback from citizens regarding the performance of MLAs during his visits to various constituencies. He indicated that accountability will be strictly enforced for elected representatives.

Recognition of Departmental Efforts

He praised the rural development initiatives undertaken by the Panchayati Raj Department under Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan. Additionally, he acknowledged the education reforms introduced by HRD Minister Nara Lokesh, noting their positive impact on SSC examination results.

Several leaders, including Excise Minister Kollu Ravindra, Labour Minister Vasamsetti Subhash, and MP V. Balashowry, were present at the event.
