Environment – Community Efforts Highlight Sustainable Living on World Environment Day

Environment –   World Environment Day was observed with a strong message of environmental responsibility in Andhra Pradesh’s Prakasam district, where officials, students, and social organizations joined hands to promote greener and more sustainable lifestyles. District Collector P. Rajababu encouraged residents to take practical steps toward protecting natural resources, reducing pollution, and preserving the environment for future generations.

Collector Leads Tree Plantation Initiative

As part of the celebrations in Ongole, the District Collector participated in a sapling plantation program at the District Collectorate. Government officials, representatives from non-governmental organizations, and students also took part in the event, demonstrating collective support for environmental conservation.

Addressing participants, Rajababu stressed that safeguarding nature is a shared responsibility. He noted that every individual has a role to play in protecting the environment and ensuring the sustainable use of resources. According to him, conscious efforts from communities can contribute significantly to maintaining ecological balance and reducing environmental degradation.

Focus on Reducing Fuel Consumption

The Collector also highlighted the importance of minimizing fuel usage as a means of lowering environmental impact. He encouraged citizens to adopt transportation methods that help reduce emissions and conserve energy resources.

Among the suggestions offered were greater use of public transport systems, carpooling, cycling, and walking whenever feasible. He explained that these practices not only help save fuel but also contribute to cleaner air and healthier surroundings. The appeal was aimed at encouraging long-term behavioral changes that support environmental sustainability.

Youth and Civic Groups Urged to Participate

Special emphasis was placed on the involvement of young people, educational institutions, and voluntary organizations in environmental protection campaigns. Rajababu called on students and community groups to actively engage in large-scale tree plantation drives to increase green cover across the region.

He further urged the public to reduce dependence on single-use plastics and adopt environmentally friendly alternatives. Excessive plastic waste and rising carbon emissions, he warned, continue to pose serious threats to ecosystems and biodiversity. Expanding green spaces and limiting pollution, he said, are essential steps toward creating a healthier environment.

Markapuram Administration Conducts Awareness Programs

Meanwhile, World Environment Day activities were also organized across the Markapuram district. The district administration conducted awareness campaigns and plantation drives to encourage greater public participation in environmental conservation efforts.

District Collector M. Vijaya Sunita, Joint Collector P. Srinivasulu, Markapuram MLA Kandula Narayana Reddy, and other officials took part in bicycle rallies organized to spread awareness about eco-friendly transportation and environmental protection. The rallies were accompanied by sapling plantation activities aimed at strengthening green initiatives across the district.

Growing Public Awareness on Environmental Protection

The events held in both districts reflected a broader effort to encourage sustainable practices and community involvement in environmental stewardship. Officials emphasized that environmental protection requires continuous action from citizens, institutions, and local administrations alike.

Through plantation drives, awareness rallies, and public outreach programs, authorities sought to reinforce the message that small everyday actions can collectively make a meaningful difference in preserving natural resources and addressing environmental challenge
