Floods – Heavy Rains Leave Dozens Dead Across Pakistan, Rescue Efforts Continue
Floods – Heavy rainfall and flash floods have caused widespread devastation across several regions of Pakistan, leaving at least 26 people dead and dozens injured over the past few days. Authorities have launched rescue and relief operations as damaged infrastructure, flooded roads and collapsed buildings continue to disrupt daily life in multiple provinces.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Records Highest Casualties
According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), at least 18 people have lost their lives in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province since July 19 following intense rainfall and flash floods. Another 19 people sustained injuries in weather-related incidents reported across the province.
Officials said many of the fatalities occurred after the roofs and walls of homes gave way under continuous rain, while others were swept away by fast-moving floodwaters. Among those killed were eight children, seven men and three women. The injured included 11 men, four women and four children, local media reported.
Homes Damaged Across Multiple Districts
The PDMA said the severe weather also caused significant property damage. A total of 30 houses were affected, with 23 suffering partial damage and seven being completely destroyed.
Rain-related incidents were reported from several districts, including Buner, Swabi, Mardan, Bajaur, Shangla, Lower Chitral, Peshawar, Nowshera, Khyber, Lower Dir, Upper Dir, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Tor Ghar, Kurram, North Waziristan and South Waziristan, highlighting the widespread impact of the ongoing monsoon conditions.
Emergency Teams Continue Relief Operations
Provincial authorities said rescue and relief work is underway in coordination with Rescue 1122, district administrations and other emergency agencies. Officials are focusing on assisting affected families, clearing damaged areas and ensuring that emergency services reach communities impacted by flooding and structural collapses.
The disaster management authority has urged local administrations to remain on alert as forecasts indicate the possibility of further rainfall in several parts of the province.
Punjab Also Reports Rain-Related Deaths
Separate weather-related incidents in Pakistan’s Punjab province claimed the lives of at least eight more people while 14 others were injured.
Gujranwala accounted for the highest number of casualties in the province, where six people, including several children, died after heavy rain triggered accidents and building collapses. Ten other people were injured in different incidents across the city.
In another incident on the GT Road, a trailer reportedly skidded on the rain-soaked surface before falling into a roadside ditch, adding to the disruption caused by the severe weather.
Building Collapses and Flooded Roads Disrupt Daily Life
In Pakpattan, two young children died after the roof of their home collapsed during heavy rain. Their mother was also injured in the incident. Meanwhile, in Lahore’s Gulshan-e-Ravi area, four factory workers suffered injuries when the roof of an industrial building collapsed amid the downpour.
Continuous rainfall lasting nearly 10 hours left major roads and surrounding neighbourhoods submerged in both Gujrat and Gujranwala. Waterlogging severely affected transportation, commercial activity and routine public movement.
Reports indicated that Gujranwala experienced some of the worst flooding, with the situation further complicated by ongoing excavation work along the GT Road for the metro bus corridor between Eminabad and Gakhar Mandi. Authorities continue to monitor conditions while emergency responders work to restore normalcy in the affected regions.
