DigitalGovernance – Delhi Government Cuts Processing Time for 84 Public Services
DigitalGovernance – The Delhi government has announced a major step toward improving digital governance by reducing the processing time for dozens of services available through its Single Window System, making access to government services quicker and more convenient for residents and businesses.

The Delhi government has introduced a series of administrative reforms to speed up the delivery of public services through its Single Window System. The latest changes are expected to make government procedures more efficient by shortening the time required to process applications across multiple departments. Officials said the initiative is designed to improve transparency while reducing unnecessary delays for citizens and business establishments.
Initiative Introduced Under Administrative Reform Programme
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced the decision on Tuesday, stating that the exercise forms part of the second phase of the government’s Deregulation Exercise under Priority Area-21. According to her, the Information Technology Department carried out an extensive assessment of how long various services took to process, beginning from the submission of an application until its final approval or disposal.
The review focused on identifying procedural bottlenecks that slowed service delivery. Based on the findings, officials implemented several changes intended to simplify workflows and reduce the overall time required to complete applications.
Comprehensive Review Across Government Departments
The assessment included 18 government departments and examined 95 important services currently available through the Single Window System. The digital platform allows users to submit applications for licences, permits, approvals and other official clearances through a single online portal instead of visiting multiple government offices individually.
Officials believe that consolidating these services on one platform has already reduced paperwork and improved coordination between departments. The latest reforms are expected to further strengthen the effectiveness of the portal by ensuring faster decision-making and quicker responses to applicants.
Faster Processing for Most Services
Following the review, the government has reduced the processing period for 84 of the 95 services studied. In addition to shorter timelines, certain services have now been made available with immediate delivery, allowing eligible applicants to receive approvals without waiting through lengthy administrative procedures.
The changes are expected to reduce the burden on both applicants and government offices by removing unnecessary procedural steps wherever possible. Authorities said these improvements are part of a broader effort to modernise public administration through technology-based solutions.
Focus on Ease of Doing Business
The Chief Minister said the reforms would support Delhi’s efforts to create a more business-friendly environment by making government interactions simpler and more predictable. Faster approvals and greater transparency are expected to benefit entrepreneurs, investors and existing businesses that rely on government permissions to carry out their operations.
She also noted that ordinary citizens would benefit from quicker access to essential public services, reducing the time and effort traditionally associated with administrative processes.
Technology to Drive Citizen-Centric Governance
According to the Chief Minister, the Information Technology Department will continue working to strengthen digital governance by adopting modern technological solutions and improving internal work processes. The department plans to identify additional opportunities where technology can simplify procedures and enhance service delivery across government departments.
The administration said its long-term objective is to create a governance system that is faster, more transparent and easier to access for everyone. By reducing processing timelines and simplifying procedures, the government aims to improve public confidence while ensuring that services reach citizens and businesses with greater efficiency.
