Jharkhand – Ranchi Teen Arrested in Alleged Girlfriend Murder Case

Jharkhand – Police in Jharkhand’s Ranchi district have arrested an 18-year-old man in connection with the alleged killing of his girlfriend, whose body was later found buried near the Kanchi river. Investigators said the accused allegedly acted after becoming suspicious about her relationship with another person from their village.

Body Recovered Days After Reported Killing

The victim, identified as 18-year-old Hissi Kumari, was allegedly killed on June 17. Her body was recovered six days later, on June 23, from the riverbank area. Police said the accused, Chetan Munda, also 18, was taken into custody on Saturday following the investigation.

Ranchi (Rural) Superintendent of Police Gaurav Goswami said officers recovered Kumari’s mobile phone from Munda after his arrest. The device is expected to be examined as part of the ongoing inquiry.

Suspicion Reportedly Began Earlier in June

According to police, Munda told investigators that he had seen Kumari with another man from their village on June 12. He allegedly began to suspect that she was involved in another relationship.

Police have not publicly shared further details about the interaction Munda claimed to have witnessed. Authorities are continuing to verify the sequence of events and gather evidence linked to the case.

Argument Allegedly Took Place Near Riverbank

Investigators said Munda allegedly asked Kumari to meet him near the Kanchi river on June 17. During their conversation, an argument reportedly began after Kumari said she did not wish to continue their relationship.

Police allege that the dispute escalated and that Munda strangled Kumari. The allegation is part of the police case, and the matter remains under investigation.

Police Allege Body Was Buried in Deep Pit

After the alleged killing, Munda is accused of burying Kumari’s body in a pit around six feet deep on the riverbank. The burial site was later identified during the police investigation, leading to the recovery of the body on June 23.

Authorities have not disclosed whether additional people are being questioned in the matter. Police are examining physical evidence, the recovered phone and statements from people connected to the case.

Investigation Continues in Ranchi District

The arrest has brought the case under further scrutiny in the local area. Police said the investigation is continuing and that further legal action will follow based on the evidence collected.

Officials have urged people not to draw conclusions beyond the information established during the investigation. Munda remains accused in the case, and the allegations against him will be examined through the legal process.
