The atmosphere outside Parliament briefly turned conversational on Thursday when a casual interaction between Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Kalyan Banerjee and Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra shifted toward a discussion about political history. The exchange took place near Makar Dwar, where Kalyan Banerjee, who is currently suspended from the Lok Sabha, has been continuing his individual protest.
Conversation Revisits Congress and Mamata Banerjee’s Political Journey
During the discussion, Kalyan Banerjee remarked that the Congress party’s political trajectory might have been different if Mamata Banerjee had not left the party nearly three decades ago. His comments referred to the period that eventually led to the formation of the Trinamool Congress after Mamata Banerjee’s departure from the Congress. The interaction remained informal and attracted attention because of its reference to a significant chapter in the country’s political history.

Congress MP Seeks Debate on Alleged Trust Financial Irregularities
In the Rajya Sabha, Congress member Randeep Singh Surjewala submitted a notice under Rule 267 requesting the suspension of the day’s scheduled business to allow an immediate discussion on allegations related to the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust.
According to the notice addressed to the Rajya Sabha Secretary-General, Surjewala called for an urgent debate over allegations involving financial irregularities, misuse of funds, embezzlement, and issues connected with donations received by the trust. He urged the Chair to set aside the listed agenda so that members could discuss the matter in detail and examine issues of accountability.
Rule 267 allows members to request that normal business be suspended to take up a matter considered to be of urgent public importance, subject to the approval of the Chair.
BJP MP Files Privilege Notice Against Rahul Gandhi
Meanwhile, another parliamentary development emerged in the Lok Sabha, where BJP MP Anurag Thakur submitted a breach of privilege and contempt notice against Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi.
The notice, addressed to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, alleged that Rahul Gandhi used language that was unparliamentary and derogatory while making what Thakur described as serious and unsupported allegations against Union Home Minister Amit Shah during House proceedings.
In his submission, Thakur requested that the Speaker refer the matter to the Privilege Committee for a detailed examination. He also sought appropriate action in accordance with parliamentary rules and recommended that Rahul Gandhi be asked to issue an unconditional apology if the committee finds merit in the allegations.
