Artificial Intelligence – Uttarakhand Expands Innovation and Disaster Management Through New Initiatives
Artificial Intelligence –Uttarakhand has taken another significant step toward strengthening technology, innovation, disaster preparedness, and film production by introducing new initiatives aimed at encouraging entrepreneurship, improving governance, and attracting investment.
The state government has accelerated its focus on artificial intelligence with the launch of the ‘Aarohi’ incubation programme and a dedicated AI newsletter. Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh formally introduced the initiatives on Wednesday, describing them as an important milestone in Uttarakhand’s technology-driven development journey. The move follows the establishment of an AI laboratory at Lok Bhavan and reflects the state’s growing commitment to integrating advanced technology into governance and public services.
Supporting Student Innovation Through AI
As part of its expanding AI ecosystem, Uttarakhand has also introduced ‘Operation Aarohi’, a programme designed to identify and nurture innovative ideas from students across the state. Selected concepts will receive incubation support to help transform them into practical solutions. Earlier, the government rolled out ‘Operation Kalki’, under which an AI-enabled mobile van has been deployed to reach districts across Uttarakhand and promote the use of artificial intelligence in solving local challenges.
During the event, the Governor reviewed presentations from 10 startups that are applying AI-based technologies and mobile applications to address everyday issues. Appreciating the creativity and determination of young entrepreneurs, he highlighted the importance of encouraging innovation that delivers practical benefits to citizens.
Film Policy Showcased to Bollywood Actor
Uttarakhand is also continuing efforts to position itself as a preferred destination for film production. Bollywood actor Aman Verma recently met Uttarakhand Film Development Council nodal officer K. S. Chauhan at the council’s Ladpur office in Dehradun, where discussions focused on the state’s film-friendly policies and scenic shooting locations.
Verma was presented with a memento inspired by the Jageshwar Temple and expressed interest in exploring filming opportunities in the hill state. During the meeting, Chauhan explained the incentives available under Uttarakhand’s film policy, including financial assistance of up to ₹3 crore for Hindi and regional films. Additional benefits are available for web series and international productions, while filmmakers can also take advantage of fee-free shooting permissions, an online clearance process completed within seven days, security assistance, and discounted accommodation at GMVN and KMVN guest houses.
Disaster Preparedness Receives National Recognition
Uttarakhand’s disaster management framework has also earned appreciation from a joint team of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF). The review took place at the Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority (USDMA) headquarters in Dehradun as part of an assessment conducted under the directions of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
The visiting team examined ongoing projects, available resources, operational capabilities, and future requirements to strengthen emergency response across the state.
NDMA Joint Adviser Colonel Sanjeev Kumar Shahi described Uttarakhand’s disaster preparedness model as exemplary, noting its emphasis on risk reduction, early warning systems, coordinated institutional response, and technology-enabled monitoring. At the same time, he stressed that climate change continues to increase the risk of glacial lake outburst floods in the Himalayan region, making continuous improvement in preparedness and response systems essential for protecting lives and infrastructure.
