Infrastructure – Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu visited Aerocity to assess the progress of major infrastructure projects and review plans aimed at strengthening the area’s role as one of Delhi’s key commercial and transit destinations. During the inspection, representatives from GMR briefed him on ongoing development activities, highlighting the project’s alignment with the capital’s long-term urban growth strategy.
Focus on Long-Term Urban Planning
The visit was part of the Lieutenant Governor’s broader effort to monitor important development zones across Delhi and evaluate whether ongoing private-sector infrastructure projects are in line with the city’s planning priorities. Officials presented updates on several upcoming works designed to support future expansion while maintaining an organized and sustainable urban environment.
During the discussions, Sandhu examined how the infrastructure projects are being planned to accommodate future population and commercial growth. He stressed that development should be guided by careful planning to ensure the area remains functional and resilient for years to come.
Water Conservation and Flood Preparedness Reviewed
A significant part of the review focused on water management measures being incorporated into the Aerocity project. Officials explained the systems being developed for rainwater conservation, drainage, and flood control to reduce the risk of waterlogging during the monsoon season.
The Lieutenant Governor assessed the preparedness of these systems and emphasized the importance of building infrastructure capable of handling extreme weather conditions while ensuring uninterrupted public services.
Traffic Flow and Metro Connectivity Discussed
Given Aerocity’s location near Indira Gandhi International Airport and its growing importance as a business and hospitality district, traffic management was another key topic during the visit. Officials outlined measures being introduced to improve vehicle movement and reduce congestion in and around the area.
Plans to strengthen last-mile Metro connectivity were also reviewed. Sandhu observed that efficient public transport access would play a vital role in making the area more convenient for commuters, visitors, and businesses while reducing pressure on road networks.
Coordination With Dwarka Development Highlighted
The Lieutenant Governor underlined the need for close collaboration between the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and GMR to ensure coordinated planning between Aerocity and nearby Dwarka. He noted that Dwarka continues to emerge as one of Delhi’s major investment and commercial corridors, making integrated infrastructure planning increasingly important.
According to Sandhu, better connectivity and synchronized development between the two regions would help create balanced urban growth while improving overall accessibility and economic opportunities.
Sustainability to Remain a Planning Priority
During the review, Sandhu directed that environmental sustainability should remain a central consideration in every stage of future development. He said rapid urban expansion must be supported by green infrastructure, efficient resource management, and environmentally responsible planning rather than treating sustainability as an afterthought.
He also stressed that water security, eco-friendly infrastructure, and efficient transportation systems should continue to shape Aerocity’s future as it expands into a larger commercial and transit hub.

Officials accompanying the Lieutenant Governor said field inspections provide valuable opportunities to evaluate ongoing work directly and identify potential shortcomings before projects reach advanced stages.
