HotelFire – A major fire at a hotel in Delhi’s Malviya Nagar area triggered chaos on Thursday morning, prompting residents, medical workers, and volunteers to rush into action as guests struggled to escape the smoke-filled building. Witnesses described scenes of panic as thick smoke spread rapidly through the property, leaving several occupants trapped and unconscious.

Locals Step Forward During Critical Moments

Among the first people to assist was Waseem Raja, a hospital employee from Saket who reached the location shortly after learning about the incident. According to Raja, many victims were found unconscious when rescuers entered the building. Using his medical knowledge, he immediately began providing emergency assistance to those affected by smoke inhalation.

He said several people were experiencing severe breathing difficulties due to the dense smoke. Volunteers and medical personnel worked together to revive victims, with CPR being administered repeatedly to those who had lost consciousness. Raja estimated that a number of individuals regained consciousness after receiving immediate medical attention.

Panic Spread as Flames Intensified

Residents in the area reported that news of the fire spread quickly around 8:50 a.m., drawing large crowds to the scene. By the time many locals arrived, flames and smoke had already engulfed much of the hotel structure.

To help those trapped on higher floors, residents placed mattresses on the ground below the building. Several guests attempted to escape by jumping from windows and upper levels. During the rescue effort, at least one person reportedly suffered injuries after landing on the ground while trying to flee the fire.

Medical Support Arrived Quickly

Recognizing the seriousness of the situation, Raja contacted a nearby hospital to request emergency assistance. Ambulances and medical teams were soon dispatched to the location, joining the rescue operation already underway.

Volunteers continued helping firefighters and police personnel by bringing unconscious victims out of the building. Emergency responders focused on providing immediate treatment to reduce the impact of smoke inhalation and improve survival chances among those rescued.

Challenging Conditions Hampered Rescue Efforts

Another resident, Mohammad Shoaib, described the conditions inside the building as extremely dangerous. He said thick smoke had spread throughout the premises, severely limiting visibility and making movement difficult.

According to Shoaib, rescuers improvised by covering their faces with T-shirts before entering the building repeatedly to search for survivors. He noted that many occupants had collapsed inside due to the overwhelming smoke, creating an urgent race against time for those attempting to save lives.

Volunteers Ignored Personal Risk

Mohammad Afzal, who also participated in the rescue operation, said those assisting victims did not stop to consider the dangers they faced. Their primary concern was reaching trapped guests as quickly as possible.

Afzal explained that any delay in entering the building could have reduced the chances of rescuing those inside. Volunteers continued working alongside emergency services despite the hazardous conditions created by the fire and smoke.

Windows Broken to Create Escape Routes

Electrician Mohammad Anees was among the earliest responders at the scene. To help stranded guests escape, he and others broke several windows using stones, creating emergency exit points for those trapped inside.

Anees said multiple people, including several women, used the openings to jump from upper floors and avoid the rapidly worsening conditions within the hotel. He later joined firefighters and police officers in repeated attempts to evacuate remaining occupants.

Despite the extensive rescue efforts, authorities and volunteers encountered several victims who could not be saved. Many reportedly succumbed to suffocation as smoke continued to spread through the building, highlighting the devastating impact of the incident and the challenges faced during the operation.
