Heatwave – IMD Issues Alert as Maharashtra Faces Rising Temperatures
Heatwave – The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has sounded an alert over a developing heatwave in several parts of Maharashtra, warning that temperatures are expected to climb sharply in the coming days. In response, the State Emergency Operations Centre has advised residents to remain cautious and take appropriate safety measures to cope with the intense weather conditions.

Heatwave Conditions Expected Across Key Regions
According to the latest forecast, multiple regions within Maharashtra are likely to experience hot and uncomfortable conditions over the next few days. Central Maharashtra is expected to face hot and humid weather between April 15 and April 18, while Marathwada may see similar conditions from April 16 to April 18.
Vidarbha is likely to witness elevated temperatures for a slightly longer duration, from April 15 to April 19. Meanwhile, isolated areas in the Konkan region are also expected to experience heat and humidity between April 15 and April 17. Authorities have urged people to limit outdoor activities during peak daytime hours and remain hydrated.
Advisory Issued to Residents
Officials have emphasized the importance of following safety guidelines during this period. People have been advised to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, wear light clothing, and ensure adequate water intake. Special attention has been recommended for vulnerable groups, including children, the elderly, and individuals with pre-existing health conditions.
The warning comes as part of precautionary efforts to minimize the impact of rising temperatures, particularly in areas where heatwave conditions can pose health risks.
Wider Heatwave Impact Across India
The IMD has also indicated that the heatwave is not limited to Maharashtra alone. Several other states are expected to experience similar conditions between April 15 and April 20. These include Telangana, Rayalaseema, parts of Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Jharkhand, and West Rajasthan.
In many of these regions, heatwave conditions are likely to appear in isolated pockets, with peak intensity varying from place to place. The department has advised residents in these areas to remain alert as temperatures may fluctuate rapidly during this period.
Rainfall and Storm Activity in Northeast
In contrast to the heatwave in central and western regions, northeastern states are expected to experience active weather conditions. Light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds is forecast across Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura between April 15 and April 18.
Some locations may also receive heavy rainfall during this time, potentially affecting daily activities and travel. Residents in these areas have been advised to stay updated with local weather alerts.
Changing Weather in Northern and Eastern Regions
Northwestern parts of the country, including Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, and Haryana, are expected to witness rainfall along with snowfall in higher altitudes. Thunderstorms and strong winds may also occur, with the possibility of hailstorms in certain areas of Jammu and Kashmir.
In eastern India, states such as West Bengal, Sikkim, and Odisha are likely to experience scattered rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms at different intervals between April 15 and April 20.
Southern States to See Mixed Weather Patterns
Southern India is also likely to witness varying weather conditions. Interior and coastal regions of Karnataka are expected to receive light to moderate rainfall along with thunderstorms and gusty winds between April 15 and April 18.
This mix of heat and rainfall across the country reflects a transitional phase in seasonal weather patterns, with different regions experiencing contrasting conditions simultaneously.
IMD Urges Vigilance Nationwide
The IMD has advised citizens across the country to stay informed and prepared, as weather conditions may change quickly. While some regions brace for extreme heat, others may deal with rain and storm-related disruptions.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and have encouraged people to follow official advisories to ensure safety during this period of varied and sometimes extreme weather conditions.
