RafaleJets – The Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday intensified its criticism of the Congress and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi over remarks linked to Rafale fighter aircraft and Operation Sindoor. The ruling party argued that a recent Indian Air Force support tender has contradicted claims that multiple Rafale jets were destroyed during the military confrontation between India and Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attack.
BJP Cites IAF Tender as Key Evidence
At the center of the political dispute is a June 2026 tender issued by the Indian Air Force for interim bridge support covering all 36 Rafale fighter aircraft currently in service. According to the BJP, the tender indicates that the entire fleet remains operational, challenging assertions made by Pakistan during and after the conflict that several Indian Rafale jets had been shot down.
BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla said the development undermines what he described as a false narrative circulated by Pakistan and amplified by some opposition leaders. He maintained that the support package for all 36 aircraft leaves little room for speculation regarding the alleged loss of Rafale fighters.
Background of Operation Sindoor
Operation Sindoor was launched by India in response to the terrorist attack in Pahalgam. The operation targeted locations in Pakistan and led to a brief period of heightened military tensions between the two neighboring countries.
During the escalation, both India and Pakistan issued competing accounts regarding battlefield developments and aircraft losses. The exchange of claims became a major point of discussion before both sides eventually moved toward a ceasefire, reducing tensions along the border.
BJP Questions Congress Stand
The BJP alleged that statements made by Rahul Gandhi and several Congress leaders regarding possible Rafale losses closely reflected claims promoted by Pakistan. Party leaders argued that such remarks contributed to confusion surrounding the outcome of the operation.
Referring to reports about the IAF support package, the BJP asserted that the maintenance arrangement for the full Rafale fleet contradicts Pakistan’s claims and reinforces India’s position on the matter.
