Earlier Grants Strengthened Rural Governance
The latest announcement comes months after the Centre released financial support under the Fifteenth Finance Commission grants for Panchayati Raj Institutions and Rural Local Bodies in Uttarakhand.
In March, funds were approved under the commission’s Untied Grant category for the financial year 2025-26. The allocation was intended to strengthen local self-governance and enable village-level institutions to undertake development activities based on local needs and priorities.
Government officials noted that such grants play an important role in improving rural infrastructure and empowering local administrative bodies to address community requirements more effectively.
Benefits Across Districts and Villages
Under the second instalment of the Untied Grant, Uttarakhand received Rs 91.31 crore. The funding is expected to benefit all 13 district panchayats, 95 development blocks, and 7,784 eligible gram panchayats across the state.
Additionally, the Centre released Rs 1.84 crore for 216 eligible gram panchayats from the withheld portion of the first instalment of the grant for the same financial year.
The funding is expected to support local development projects, strengthen rural governance systems, and improve the delivery of public services in villages and remote regions.
Grant Release Process
Under the framework of the Fifteenth Finance Commission, recommendations for grants to Panchayati Raj Institutions and Rural Local Bodies are jointly made by the Ministry of Panchayati Raj and the Ministry of Jal Shakti through its Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation.
Based on these recommendations, the Ministry of Finance authorises and releases the approved funds. The process is designed to ensure that financial assistance reaches local bodies for development activities and infrastructure improvement across rural India.
